Discover Seoul Pass: Is It Worth It for a Korea Trip? The Real Break-Even Prices

EpicKor Editorial|

Last updated: 3 November 2026. Pass prices, products, rules and closures were read that day on the official Discover Seoul Pass site (discoverseoulpass.com, run by the Seoul Tourism Organization) and its public product, FAQ, notice and attraction data. Palace, cable car, Seoul Sky, N Seoul Tower, Lotte World, Everland, Nami Island and K Limousine prices were read the same day on each operator's own Korean page. ₩1,334 = US$1 (Federal Reserve H.10, release of 2 November 2026). Sources at the end.

Is the Discover Seoul Pass worth it? Yes if your trip includes two or three big paid tickets, and no if it is mostly palaces. The Discover Seoul Pass (디스커버 서울패스) now comes in four forms on its official site: Pick 3 Basic ₩49,000 (US$37), Pick 3 Theme Park ₩70,000 (US$52), 72 hours ₩90,000 (US$67) and 120 hours ₩130,000 (US$97). The 24-hour and 48-hour passes that most guides still price are no longer sold there. And the palaces that fill the pass's advertising carry almost no value: Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung and Jongmyo total ₩9,000 at the gate, or ₩6,000 on the government's combined ticket.

The arithmetic turns on the expensive tickets, such as N Seoul Tower at ₩29,000 and Lotte World at ₩67,000, and on what you would really pay for those without the pass. This guide covers attraction entry only. For subway and bus cards, read the Climate Card guide, the Korea transport numbers and the T-money and payment guide.

The Mobile Pass works only inside the live app, and a screenshot of the QR code is not accepted, so a flat phone means no entry. An Anker 10,000mAh power bank covers a full day. See it on AmazonAffiliate link. As an Amazon Associate, EpicKor earns from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

What changed: the prices most guides still get wrong

The 24-hour and 48-hour passes. The official FAQ now says both "are no longer sold on the official Discover Seoul Pass website", though some outside travel agencies "may continue to sell remaining stock". The 48-hour Card Pass stopped on 18 April 2025. The site is not fully consistent itself: its purchase guide still mentions 48 hours and one FAQ answer still mentions 24 and 48, but the live sales list shows only the four products above. If a reseller offers a 24- or 48-hour pass, it is leftover stock, so check its refund terms before paying.

Pick 3 got looser. Until 30 June 2026 you chose one attraction from each of three groups. From 1 July 2026, the official notice says you can "freely choose any 3 participating attractions, excluding theme parks". Older guides describing groups A, B and C are out of date.

The eSIM is now free for everyone. From 1 July 2026 every buyer gets a 5-day (120-hour) eSIM from SK Telecom, unlimited at up to 100 Mbps. Downloading it does not start the pass clock, but it does end your refund right, even if you never visit anything.

Some attraction prices on the pass's own site are behind. Its attraction database still showed N Seoul Tower at ₩26,000, Lotte World at ₩64,000 and Everland at ₩68,000 on 3 November, while the operators' pages show higher or month-dependent prices. The site's product page does use ₩29,000 and ₩67,000. We use the operators' numbers below.

How many attractions is "70+"? The product pages count 71 free benefits and 140 discounts, and the attraction list held 75 free entries that day. That count includes 7 royal tomb sites, 5 hanbok shops, 6 saunas and spas, 3 hiking-gear centres and the eSIM. It is a real list, but not 71 different things you would plan a day around.

What is in the pass, and what is only a coupon

Two words matter on the attraction list: Free and Coupon. A coupon is a discount you still pay around. Several of the tickets foreign visitors search for most fall on the wrong side.

Why palaces should not decide this

All five palace sites come to ₩9,000, and the government's combined ticket (궁궐 통합관람권) covers them for ₩6,000, valid for six months. That is under a third of one N Seoul Tower ticket. The palace ticket is often free anyway:

  • Korea Grand Festival: all palaces, Jongmyo and the royal tombs are free until 15 November 2026. See the festival guide.
  • Wednesdays: Deoksugung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung and Jongmyo are free every Wednesday, and Gyeongbokgung on the last Wednesday of the month, under the palace office's notice of 28 May 2026. Its hours page still lists "Culture Day (every Wednesday)". Details in the Wednesday palace guide.
  • Hanbok: anyone wearing hanbok enters free, under the palace office's guidelines. See hanbok rental. Korean reports say this rule is under review for January 2027. For now, do not count a palace ticket as well if the pass is paying for your hanbok. The ₩35,000 "Gyeongbokgung Palace + Hanbok Experience" line in the example table on the pass's 72-hour product page is, in practice, the hanbok.
  • Age: foreign visitors aged 18 and under, or 65 and over, enter free. The pass has no child price, so a 10-year-old on a pass is being charged adult rates for tickets that cost nothing.

The one thing to watch is a fee rise. The Korea Heritage Service said in August that new palace fees would be announced in November and apply from 1 January 2027, but SBS Biz reported on 8 October that the plan and start date are now marked undetermined (미정). Today's fees stand until a new table is published.

Break-even: seven real trips, with the numbers

A pass should be judged against what you would actually spend. Gate price is one number, but foreign visitors can often buy cheaper. On 3 November, Seoul Pass (seoultravelpass.com) listed a foreigner-only Lotte World ticket at ₩42,500 and an Everland November–December ticket at ₩44,200. In October, Trip.com listed N Seoul Tower at ₩23,400, as recorded in our observatory guide. That page did not load for us on 3 November, so treat the tower figure as an October estimate. Each trip below is worked twice. The "cheaper" column uses those three prices and gate prices for everything else; we did not check other discounts.

Prices used: SEA LIFE ₩35,000, E Cruise ₩29,900, Leeum ₩18,000 and Seodaemun ₩3,000 are the pass site's listed prices. Hanbok is ₩35,000, from the "Gyeongbokgung Palace + Hanbok Experience" line in the example table on the pass's 72-hour product page; its attraction list shows Hanboknam at ₩50,000. The full route counts no palace ticket, because hanbok wearers enter free. No eSIM value is counted anywhere in this table.

Three things follow:

  1. Pick 3 Basic is the best buy for most short trips. It needs only three ₩16,334 tickets, and nothing has to fit into 72 hours.
  2. The Theme Park pass loses most of its edge to foreigner tickets. Its ₩39,000 gate saving shrinks to ₩8,900. It still wins, but only if you use all three picks.
  3. The 72-hour pass is an all-or-nothing product. A gentle culture route barely breaks even. A route with a park day and a cruise beats it easily.

Keep the AREX line honest too. The pass saves ₩13,000 only if you would have taken the express. If you would have taken the all-stop train at ₩4,750 by transit card from Terminal 1 (Airport Railroad fare page, read 3 October 2026), the real saving is ₩8,250. See the airport train numbers.

Is the 120-hour worth it? It costs ₩40,000 more than the 72-hour, so your two extra days must hold at least ₩40,000 of tickets you would otherwise buy. Everland at the ₩44,200 foreigner price clears that by only ₩4,200, and Yongin is a full-day trip. Most five-day visitors are better off with a 72-hour pass and two free days.

What about the official ₩271,400 example? The pass's product page adds up eight lines to ₩271,400 and the sum is correct. But it assumes gate prices, and it counts the eSIM at ₩27,500 and a ₩30,000 museum line. Swap in the cheaper Lotte World and N Seoul Tower tickets and it falls to about ₩241,300, before you remove anything you would not have bought. It remains a strong itinerary, if you really do all of it in 72 hours, including a full day at a theme park.

How much is the eSIM worth? The pass lists it at ₩27,500. Count only what you would otherwise have paid. If you already have roaming, it is worth nothing. If you would have bought a 5-day eSIM anyway, it moves the tight rows above in the pass's favour, and it could flip the culture route from a small loss to a win.

The rules that quietly cost you money

Know which clock you are on. The official example: a 72-hour pass activated at 13:00 on 25 August ends at 12:59:59 on 28 August. A Pick 3 activated at the same moment ends at 23:59:59 on 29 August. Pick 3 runs on calendar days, so starting late in the day costs less.

Do not let the airport start your clock. Issuing an AREX code activates the pass even if you never board, and boarding K Limousine does too. Land at 21:00, take the free train, and your 72 hours have started with no attraction open. Use the free ride on a morning arrival, or save it for the trip back to the airport, inside the validity window. A Pick 3 user also spends one of three picks on it.

Each attraction works once. The pass allows one use per partner. City tour buses are one course per operator, day or night.

Monday and Tuesday eat a 72-hour pass. Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, Seodaemun Prison and Leeum close on Mondays, Gyeongbokgung and Jongmyo on Tuesdays. Tiger Bus stops on Mondays. Start on a Wednesday or Thursday if you can.

Check the closure notice before you start. As of the 29 October update: Théâtre des Lumières is closed to 9 November, Sealala Sauna to 18 November, Ilmin Museum of Art to 24 November and LOTTE Museum of Art to 3 December. Gahoe Museum stopped accepting the pass from 1 September until further notice. Seoul Plaza Ice Rink is marked as returning around December 2026.

You cannot pre-book free attractions. The FAQ says advance reservations are not available for free partners, and cruises must be checked on the day. On busy days they can sell out. Seoul Cruise may also cancel when fewer than 40 passengers are booked.

Go to the exchange window. You swap the pass for a ticket at the booth; the QR is not your entry ticket at most sites. At Changdeokgung use the exchange ticket office, not the sales window. Card Pass holders should not pay with the card's transit function at a palace booth by mistake, as the site warns.

Mobile Pass or Card Pass, and where to buy

Both cost the same. The Mobile Pass lives in the app, needs no pickup and uses a QR code that cannot be screenshotted. The Card Pass needs no phone at the gate, but you must collect it and it cannot be replaced if lost. It also works as a transit card after a separate top-up, at adult fares only. That top-up has a complicated refund route, so compare it with the Climate Card before loading much. Pick 3 buyers must register in the app and choose attractions there, even with a Card Pass.

On the official site and app you can pay with overseas Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners or AMEX, plus WeChat Pay and Alipay since 14 September 2026. Card Passes bought online are collected at the Myeong-dong or Seoul Tourism Plaza tourist information centres (09:00–18:00) or Incheon Airport counters. Terminal 1 Gate 13 and the Terminal 2 counter are open 24 hours. Airport bookshops and CU stores take cash only.

Promo codes: the official Autumn Sale gave 15% off Pick 3 from 12 to 31 October 2026, which works out to ₩41,650 and ₩59,500. That sale has ended and the live prices on 3 November showed no discount. The site runs sales, so check the product page before buying, but we did not test any code at checkout. Resellers also sell the pass, and refunds then follow the reseller's rules. The pass-and-Climate-Card combo is sold only on Klook.

Refunds and eligibility: official purchases can be refunded within 30 days if no benefit has been used. An unused pass stays valid for five years from purchase. Multi-pass orders cannot be partly refunded. Korean nationals living in Korea cannot use the pass and will be refused entry, even with a foreign friend. Foreign nationals can, and you may be asked for proof.

When to skip it

  • Your trip is palaces, markets and neighbourhoods. Buy the ₩6,000 combined palace ticket, or go on a free Wednesday.
  • You are travelling with children under 19. Palaces are already free for them and the pass has no child rate. Check each park's child price instead: Lotte World charges ₩50,000 for ages 3 to 12.
  • You only want one big thing. A foreigner Lotte World ticket at ₩42,500 costs less than any pass.
  • Your must-do items are Seoul Sky, the cable car or Lotte World Aquarium. None of them is a free benefit.
  • You stay outside the centre and start late each day. Three tickets a day is what makes the 72-hour pay, and that needs early starts.

FAQ

Q: How much is the Discover Seoul Pass in 2026?

A: On the official site on 3 November 2026: Pick 3 Basic ₩49,000, Pick 3 Theme Park ₩70,000, 72-hour ₩90,000 and 120-hour ₩130,000. Card and Mobile versions cost the same. Prices are listed as valid to 31 December 2026.

Q: Is the Discover Seoul Pass worth it?

A: It pays when you use two or three big tickets. A Pick 3 Basic needs an average of ₩16,334 per pick. A palace-focused trip loses money, because all five palace sites total ₩9,000.

Q: Is there still a 24-hour or 48-hour Discover Seoul Pass?

A: Not on the official website. The official FAQ says both are no longer sold there, though outside agencies may still sell remaining stock.

Q: Does the Discover Seoul Pass include the Namsan cable car?

A: No. N Seoul Tower's observatory is free once, and the official page states the cable car ride is not included. The cable car costs ₩15,000 round trip.

Q: Does the pass include Lotte World Tower's Seoul Sky?

A: Only as a 10% discount coupon. At the official ₩33,000 adult price that is about ₩29,700.

Q: Does the Discover Seoul Pass cover the subway?

A: No. Only the Card Pass works as a transit card, and you top it up with your own money at adult fares. The pass does include one free AREX and one free K Limousine ride on the All-Inclusive passes, or as picks on Pick 3.

Q: When does the pass start counting?

A: At the first free use, including issuing an AREX code or boarding K Limousine. Downloading the eSIM or topping up the transit card does not start it.

Q: Is there a child Discover Seoul Pass?

A: No. The price and benefits are the same at every age, and the Card Pass charges adult fares on transit.
