N Seoul Tower vs Lotte World Tower is the question most visitors ask, but a Seoul observatory decision now has three real answers. On 4 June 2026 the 63 Building in Yeouido reopened its observatory as 63 SkyPicnic (63스카이피크닉), and for the first time in 16 years it lets ticket holders walk out onto the 63rd-floor helipad. So the choice is no longer "classic or tallest". It is classic, tallest, or open-air, at three different prices in three different parts of Seoul.

None of the three sells a separate "foreigner price" at the counter. What foreign visitors actually pay less with is an online ticket from a travel platform such as Klook, KKday, Trip.com or NOL (Yanolja). In October 2026 Trip.com listed N Seoul Tower's adult ticket at ₩23,400 against the ₩29,000 counter price, and 63 SkyPicnic at ₩24,300 adult and ₩20,700 child against ₩27,000 and ₩23,000. Those are platform prices that move week to week, not the observatories' own rates.

The three towers are far apart. N Seoul Tower sits on Namsan (남산) in the middle of the city, a short climb from Myeongdong. Lotte World Tower is in Jamsil (잠실), Songpa-gu, in southeast Seoul south of the Han River. The 63 Building (63빌딩, officially the 63 Hanwha Life Building) is on Yeouido (여의도), the island in the Han River to the west. Allow 40 to 60 minutes on the subway between any two of them, so in practice you pick a neighborhood for the evening, not just a building.

N Seoul Tower: The Classic on Namsan

N Seoul Tower is the one in every K-drama. The tower itself is 236.7 meters, but it stands on top of Namsan, so the observatory looks out from roughly 480 meters above sea level. You get a proper skyline view without a 500-meter building, and the visit comes with a forest park, the love-lock fences and a cable car ride.

The observatory ticket is ₩29,000 for adults and ₩23,000 for children aged 3 to 12; seniors 65 and over pay the child price and children under 36 months go free, according to the operator's official price page. Hours are 10:00 to 22:30 on weekdays and 10:00 to 23:00 on weekends and public holidays, every day of the year. That makes it the latest-closing of the three on weekdays, which matters if you want to watch the city lights come on and stay until it is fully dark.

You may see two names on signs. The broadcaster YTN owns the tower and calls the whole site YTN Seoul Tower (YTN서울타워); "N Seoul Tower" is the brand of the observatory floors and restaurants, run by CJ N City, a CJ Group company. It is the same place, and the same ticket.

Getting up is its own decision. The Namsan Cable Car (남산케이블카) costs ₩15,000 round trip or ₩12,000 one way for adults and is a separate ticket from the observatory; on weekends the line can take one to two hours. From Myeongdong Station Exit 3, the walk up to the cable car station takes about 7 to 8 minutes, all uphill.

The honest weakness: the deck is the lowest of the three in absolute terms, and it is fully glassed in. Its strength is the view itself. From Namsan you look straight across downtown to Bugaksan, Inwangsan and the Bukhansan ridge, the mountains that frame Seoul's old city. The taller towers sit further from those mountains and see them as a flatter line. Lotte World Tower Seoul Sky: The Tallest

Lotte World Tower is 555 meters and 123 floors, the tallest building in South Korea, and Seoul Sky (서울스카이) takes up floors 117 to 123. A double-deck elevator, the "Sky Shuttle", takes you up in about a minute. The 117th floor is the main viewing level; the 118th has the Sky Deck, a glass floor roughly 478 meters above the street; the 120th has the Sky Terrace; and the 123rd is the 123 Lounge bar.

Seoul Sky's official price page lists ₩31,000 for adults (13 and over) and ₩27,000 for children from 36 months to 12 years. Some 2026 listings, including Namuwiki and map apps, show ₩33,000 and ₩29,000 instead, and we could not find an official announcement of a rise, so check the price on the booking screen before you pay. A same-day Fast Pass for skipping the queue costs ₩62,000 and is sold at the on-site counter only.

Hours are 10:30 to 22:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with the last ticket at 21:00, and 10:30 to 23:00 on Friday, Saturday and the day before a public holiday, with the last ticket at 22:00. Seoul Sky's visitor notice says the Sky Deck, terrace and photo zones may change how they run, or close, during heavy-rain, strong-wind and yellow-dust advisories.

From this height the Han River becomes a ribbon and the apartment blocks turn into a grid that shows how big Seoul really is. When you stand on the glass floor, the drop below is the traffic of Songpa-gu. Because nearly all of it is indoors, Seoul Sky is the best choice on a wet or windy day. It is also the easiest to fit into a bigger day: the tower stands over Lotte World Mall, the aquarium and the Lotte World theme park, all reached from Jamsil Station (Lines 2 and 8) without going outside. 63 SkyPicnic: The Open-Air Rooftop

The 63 Building's observatory closed for renovation in mid-2024. It reopened on 4 June 2026 as 63 SkyPicnic, run by the media-art company XORBIS (엑스오비스), alongside the new Centre Pompidou Hanwha (퐁피두센터 한화) museum in the same building. On 10 September, Hanwha Life said visitor numbers at 63 SkyPicnic were about 20% higher than in the same period before the renovation.

The main deck, Sky Infinity, is on the 60th floor, about 250 meters above the street. Mirrors and a media floor surround the windows, and blackout screens come down for short light-and-sound shows before lifting again to show the city. The same floor has the Sky Voyage Theater (a five-sided projection room), the Sky Stage with a hologram sphere, a gift shop and a Starbucks that only ticket holders can use.

The real reason to go is upstairs. The official site describes the 63rd-floor rooftop as the helipad, open for the first time in 16 years, with a 360-degree view over the Han River, Namsan and the mountains beyond. At this height it is the only one of the three where you stand outside on a rooftop rather than behind glass.

Tickets are ₩27,000 for adults aged 13 to 64 and ₩23,000 for children from 36 months to 12 years and seniors 65 and over; under-36-months go free with a guardian. It is open every day from 10:00 to 22:00, the ticket desk runs 09:50 to 21:30, and there is no regular closing day except private-hire event days. Read the rules before you go, because they are stricter than at the other two:

• The rooftop closes without notice in rain, strong wind or lightning. On a stormy day you are paying ₩27,000 for the indoor media floor only.
• Strollers are not allowed inside the observatory, and the operator recommends a baby carrier instead.
• Wheelchairs are restricted from the viewing spaces, according to the official notice, to protect the mirror and LED floors.
• Suitcases and large backpacks are not allowed in; store them first.
• No stilettos, work boots or cleats, and trousers are recommended because of the mirror floor.

Getting there takes a bus or a walk. The official directions use Yeouinaru Station (Line 5) Exit 1 and buses 261, 5633, 5634 or Yeongdeungpo 11, or Yeouido Station (Lines 5 and 9) Exit 5 and buses 261 or Yeongdeungpo 11. The walk from Yeouinaru along the Han River park takes about 20 minutes and is a good way to arrive just before sunset.

Sunset Times in Seoul, October to November

The best ticket at any of the three is the one that gets you in 30 to 45 minutes before sunset, so you see the city in daylight, at golden hour and lit up at night on one ticket. These are approximate sunset times for central Seoul (Korea Standard Time):

On weekends, add queue time on top. Seoul Sky lines run longest on weekend evenings, which is exactly when everyone wants the sunset slot, and the Namsan cable car line can add an hour or more before you even reach N Seoul Tower. Direction matters too: in October and November the sun sets in the west-southwest, so head for the windows on that side as soon as you arrive. At 63 SkyPicnic the sun drops toward the western Han River, which is why the rooftop is at its best in the last half hour of light.

Which One Should You Actually Pick?

If you can only do one, N Seoul Tower is still the best first-visit answer. If you have seen Namsan before, 63 SkyPicnic's rooftop is the newest thing to happen to Seoul's skyline viewing in years, and the cheapest of the three.

When It's Not Worth Paying: Free Alternatives

All three are a waste of money on a high fine-dust day. When PM2.5 levels are "bad", the view from 250 or 478 meters is a white wall. Check the AirKorea (에어코리아) app or any weather app before you buy, and buy online tickets that are dated for a clear evening rather than weeks in advance.

You also do not need a ticket to get a good view of Seoul:

• Namsan summit plaza (남산 정상). The outdoor terrace at the foot of N Seoul Tower is free. If you have already climbed Namsan, you get most of the northern view without paying ₩29,000; the paid deck adds height and the full 360 degrees.

Tickets, Timing, and Photography Tips

Buy online on the day, not weeks ahead. Platform tickets are cheaper than the counter at all three, and Seoul's haze can change your plans by the hour. 63 SkyPicnic tickets are valid only on the day they are issued, and Seoul Sky tickets are valid only for the date printed on them.

Kill the window reflections. At night, the observatory glass reflects the lights behind you. Press your phone's lens flat against the glass, or cup a dark sleeve or jacket around it, and the reflections disappear. A lens cloth helps too, because thousands of phones touch that glass every day.

Hold the phone still. Night mode needs a few seconds of stillness. Rest the phone on a ledge or use a small tabletop tripod; inside the observatories, ask staff before you set anything up, and keep walkways clear.

Plan for the weather. The 63 rooftop and the Namsan plaza are outdoors; Seoul Sky's terrace and glass-floor areas can also close in strong wind. On a clear, calm evening, the outdoor options reward you most. On a wet one, go to Jamsil.
