Suncheon Bay, Korea: One ₩10,000 Ticket, Two Sites, and Where to Stay
Last updated: 12 October 2026. Ticket prices, opening hours, SkyCube and boat times come from the official Suncheon Bay National Garden and Suncheon Bay Wetland websites (scbay.suncheon.go.kr), read on 12 October 2026. Train times and fares are national timetable data for 12–18 October 2026, as republished by train.asamaru.net, because Korail's own site blocks automated queries. Sources are listed at the end.
Most English guides to Suncheon Bay (순천만) in South Korea list two attractions with two prices: the National Garden and the reed wetland, with the wetland often shown as a separate, outdated ₩7,000 or ₩8,000 entry.
On the official fee page there is one ticket. An adult ticket costs ₩10,000 (as of October 2026). In the operator's words, "the National Garden ticket also lets you visit Suncheon Bay Wetland", which is about 7 km away, on the same day. Buy it at either gate and keep it, because the second site asks to see it.
The ticket isn't the only thing English pages leave out. Both sites close on the last Monday of every month, which is 26 October and 30 November 2026. The SkyCube pod line between them stops every Monday. And from November the wetland stops selling tickets at 17:00, which is right about when the reeds look their best.

Quick Guide: Suncheon Bay in numbers (as of October 2026)
| What | The number | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Adult ticket (19–64) | ₩10,000, both sites, same day | Buy one ticket, not two. Teens ₩7,000, children ₩5,000 |
| SkyCube combined ticket | ₩14,000 adult | Garden + wetland + the pod ride, when the gate office is selling it |
| City pass (관광지 통합입장권) | ₩12,000 adult, valid over two days | Garden, wetland, Naganeupseong walled town, the drama set and the Deep-Rooted Tree Museum |
| Closed | Last Monday of the month: 26 Oct, 30 Nov 2026 | Both sites shut. SkyCube, reed train and boat also stop every Monday |
| Wetland tickets | 08:00–18:00 in Sep–Oct, 08:00–17:00 Nov–Feb | Grounds stay open an hour longer. The garden sells tickets until 19:00 |
| Seoul (Yongsan) → Suncheon | KTX ₩42,300, about 2 h 25–2 h 50, 18 KTX a day | Plus 4 a day from Suseo at ₩41,200 |
| Suncheon Station → sites | Bus 66: about 21 min to the garden, 35 min to the wetland | ₩1,400 by transport card, ₩1,500 cash |
| Reeds and cranes | Reeds gold in September–October; cranes from mid-October | Mid-October to early November gives you both |
One ticket, two places: what ₩10,000 buys
The official fee table for Suncheon Bay National Garden (순천만국가정원) and Suncheon Bay Wetland (순천만습지) is the same table on both websites, and the price is the same at either gate:
| Ticket (individual) | Adult (19–64) | Teen / soldier (13–18) | Child (7–12) | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (단일권) | ₩10,000 | ₩7,000 | ₩5,000 | Garden + wetland, same day |
| Night ticket (야간권, sold 17:00–19:00) | ₩5,000 | ₩3,500 | ₩2,500 | Garden only, 17:00–20:00; no wetland entry |
| SkyCube combined (스카이큐브 통합권) | ₩14,000 | ₩12,000 | ₩8,000 | Garden + wetland + SkyCube |
| City pass (관광지 통합입장권) | ₩12,000 | ₩8,500 | ₩5,500 | Five city-run sites over two days (one night) |
Four rules matter as much as the prices (the first three from the fee page, the last from the SkyCube operator):
- The ticket is valid for the day you buy it. If you buy it at the wetland, show it at the garden gate.
- You may re-enter once a day, but only if you get a stamp at the exit on your way out.
- The SkyCube can't be ridden on its own. You must have entered the garden or the wetland first. On weekends and holidays the gate ticket offices may stop selling the combined ticket because of the SkyCube queue. The SkyCube station kiosk still sells single ride tickets, card only: ₩8,000 return or ₩6,000 one way for adults.
- SkyCube seats can sell out. The operator's site (skycube.co.kr) sells timed seats online from the 20th of the month before, 200 per half-hour from the garden station, and warns that on-site tickets may be hard to get once the online ones are gone. Book ahead for a weekend in October or November.
So if you plan to ride, the ₩14,000 combined ticket is ₩2,000 cheaper than a ₩10,000 ticket plus a one-way ride. The fee page doesn't say whether it covers one way or a return, so ask at the window. If you're not riding, the plain ₩10,000 ticket is all you need.
The ₩12,000 city pass is the one that changes the maths for an overnight stay. The garden and wetland alone cost ₩10,000, and Naganeupseong (낙안읍성), the walled folk village, costs ₩4,000 on its own. For ₩2,000 less than those two tickets, the pass also adds the Suncheon Drama Set (순천드라마촬영장), the Deep-Rooted Tree Museum (뿌리깊은나무박물관) next to Naganeupseong, and a second day. Ask for 통합입장권 at the ticket window.
Day trip or one night? Decide this first
You don't need to stay overnight if you are already nearby. Yeosu EXPO Station is about 20 minutes from Suncheon by KTX (₩7,500, 34 trains a day). If you are based in Yeosu, Suncheon Bay is an easy afternoon, so sleep in Yeosu and come back after sunset.
From Seoul, a day trip works on paper. The first KTX leaves Yongsan at 05:08 and arrives at 07:51. The last KTX back leaves Suncheon at 22:15 and reaches Yongsan at 00:44. That is still more than five hours on trains for one day of walking.
From Busan, it doesn't work well. Only four direct trains a day run from Bujeon, taking 2 h 40 to 3 h 34 (₩12,400–19,200).
Suncheon on Agoda: one night between the reeds and the walled town If you are staying, choose by your next train. Pick the station area for an early KTX, or the blocks around the garden for a slow morning on bus 66. Check whether the room has a bed or floor bedding before you book. EpicKor may earn a commission if you book through this Agoda link, at no extra cost to you. Confirm dates, taxes, cancellation terms and the final price on Agoda.
Compare Suncheon stays on AgodaStay a night if any of these apply:
- You want the reeds at sunset without a midnight arrival. Sunset is around 17:55 in mid-October (our estimate from solar tables), and the last KTX back to Seoul doesn't get in until 00:44.
- You want the city pass. The second day is what makes it worth buying, for Naganeupseong and the drama set the next morning. The temple Seonamsa (선암사) is a separate ticket.
- You are here for the cranes. They feed in the fields around the bay, and a night nearby lets you be there when the wetland opens at 08:00.
Opening hours, closures and the Monday trap
| Place | October | November–February | Closed |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Garden | Tickets 09:00–19:00, grounds to 20:00 | Same (Oct–Jun schedule) | Last Monday of the month |
| Wetland | Tickets 08:00–18:00, grounds to 19:00 | Tickets 08:00–17:00, grounds to 18:00 | Last Monday of the month |
| SkyCube (garden → wetland) | First 10:00, last 18:00; last back 18:30 | First 10:00, last 17:00; last back 17:30 | Every Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) |
| Reed train (Suncheon Bay station ↔ Mujin Bridge) | 10:10–18:20 | 10:10–17:20 | Every Monday |
| Eco boat, S-channel route | 30 min, ₩7,000 adult | Weather permitting | Every Monday |
The trap is a normal Monday. On 12, 19 October or 2, 9, 16, 23 November, both parks are open, but the SkyCube, the reed train and the boat are not. You'll travel between the two sites on bus 66 instead.
On 26 October and 30 November everything is shut. If your trip covers either date, move the Suncheon day.
The wetland's path lights go off at closing, so start walking back before dark.
Getting there: KTX to Suncheon, then bus 66
Suncheon Station (순천역) is on the Jeolla line. Since the 1 September 2026 rail merger (what changed), trains from Yongsan and from Suseo are all sold as Korail KTX.
| From | Trains a day (Mon 12 Oct 2026) | Adult fare, standard class | Time | First / last |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yongsan (KTX) | 18 KTX (25 trains in total) | ₩42,300 | 2 h 24 – 2 h 50 on most; two take about 3 h 20 | 05:08 / 21:48 |
| Yongsan (ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Maum) | 4 | ₩37,800 | 4 h – 4 h 47 | — |
| Yongsan (Mugunghwa) | 3 | ₩25,400 | about 5 h | — |
| Suseo (KTX-Sancheon) | 4 | ₩41,200 | 2 h 39 – 2 h 47 | 06:39 / 19:08 |
| Suncheon → Yongsan (KTX) | 17 KTX | ₩42,300 | about 2 h 30 – 2 h 50 | 05:26 / 22:15 |
| Yeosu EXPO → Suncheon | 34 (all types) | ₩7,500 KTX, ₩2,600 Mugunghwa | about 20 min | first 05:05 |
| Bujeon (Busan) → Suncheon | 4 | ₩12,400 – ₩19,200 | 2 h 40 – 3 h 34 | 06:12 / 18:53 |
Seats go on sale two months ahead (our ticket-window guide), so book the evening train back as soon as you know your date.
From the station, take city bus 66. The garden's official directions say to board it at the stop across the road from Suncheon Station and get off at 국가정원(동문), the garden's east gate, in about 21 minutes. To the 순천만습지 stop it's about 35 minutes. The wetland's page says the bus runs every 25 minutes or so from 06:05 to 22:00, while the city's tourism page lists about 30 runs a day, every 30–40 minutes. Plan on the longer gap.
The fare is ₩1,400 by transport card, ₩1,500 in cash. A free transfer is allowed once, within 60 minutes, onto a different route number, and only if you tap your card when you get off. Riding bus 66 from the garden on to the wetland is a new fare, not a transfer.
Suncheon's bus network is changing (a new Suncheon–Yeosu express bus, the 3002, started on 1 September 2026), and the city's tourist bus table may lag behind. Check live times in Kakao Map or Naver Map on the day; Google's transit directions are unreliable in Korea (why, and which app to use).
The National Garden: what to see in three hours
The garden was built for the 2013 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo. It reopened permanently on 20 April 2014 and was named Korea's first national garden on 5 September 2015. It covers 926,992 m², with world gardens, themed gardens and gardens built by local groups, on both sides of the Dongcheon stream.

Three hours is enough to cover the main loop:
- The spiral grass mounds and the lake garden. Walk up the mounds for the view over the grounds.
- The world gardens (Dutch, Italian, Chinese and more) and the quieter Korean garden (한국정원) with its tiled pavilions.
- The SkyCube station (정원역) at the east end, if you are riding on to the wetland.
The SkyCube: pods across the bay
The SkyCube (스카이큐브) is a driverless pod line. It opened in April 2014 with 40 six-seat cars running 4.64 km from the garden to Suncheon Bay station (순천만역) on the edge of the wetland. From there a small reed train (갈대열차), free for SkyCube riders and not sold separately, runs 1.2 km (about 7 minutes) to Mujin Bridge (무진교), the entrance to the reed boardwalk.
Remember the cutoffs. The last pod from the garden leaves at 18:00 in October and 17:00 from November. The last one back to the garden leaves 30 minutes later. If you miss it, take bus 66 back.
The wetland: the reeds, the observatory and the boat
Suncheon Bay's reed beds have grown from about 150,000 pyeong in 1997 to 1.6 million pyeong (roughly 5.3 km²), according to the wetland's own history page. The boardwalk from Mujin Bridge runs straight through them, on decking built low so it is hard to see from a distance.

When to go. The wetland's guide to the reed year says: green from May to August, turning yellow-gold in September and October, seed heads blowing in November, dry in December and January, cut back in February. The gold peak and the first cranes overlap from mid-October into early November.
Climb to the observatory. The view in this guide's first photo is from Yongsan (용산), a 77 m hill on the wetland's east side, about a 30-minute walk from the bottom of the hill. The old observation deck failed a 2023 safety inspection with a D grade and was demolished. A new two-storey timber Yongsan Observatory (용산전망대) was completed on 11 July 2025, so English guides written before then describe a different deck.

Watch the closing time. Sunset is roughly 17:55 in mid-October and around 17:20 at the end of November (our estimates from solar tables for Suncheon). In October the wetland stops selling tickets at 18:00, so sunset fits easily. From November, tickets stop at 17:00 and the grounds close an hour later. Be inside by 16:30, walk up Yongsan, and walk down before the path lights go off.
The boat. The eco boat (생태체험선) runs a 30-minute, 6 km return trip from Daedae pier through the S-channel (adults ₩7,000), plus a 60-minute route to Hwapo (₩12,000). It doesn't take reservations, sails only with at least four passengers, and asks every passenger to fill in a boarding form and carry ID, so bring your passport.
Hooded cranes: mid-October to March
Suncheon Bay is one of the main wintering grounds for the hooded crane (흑두루미). In 2025 the first 73 birds arrived on 22 October, a day later than the year before. About 7,600 winter here each year, roughly half of the world's population, according to Suncheon city figures reported by Seoul Shinmun.
The cranes don't stand by the boardwalk. They feed in the rice fields around the bay and roost on the mudflats. The city farms a block of those fields for them as the hooded crane farming area (흑두루미 희망농업단지), and the Ramsar trail (람사르길) along the bay edge is the usual birding walk. This is where the binoculars in the link at the top earn their place: an 8x32 pair is light enough to carry all day and shows the black-and-white necks at field distance.
The second day: the city pass, Naganeupseong and Seonamsa
If you bought the ₩12,000 city pass, use it on the morning after.
- Naganeupseong (낙안읍성): a walled Joseon-era town where people still live in thatched houses. On its own it costs ₩4,000 for adults, with tickets sold 09:00–18:00 in October and 09:00–17:30 in November–January. Buses 61, 63 and 68 run there via Suncheon Station; bus 63 runs about 10 times a day, every 80 minutes or so, so check the return time before you go.
- Suncheon Drama Set (순천드라마촬영장): streets rebuilt as 1960s–80s Seoul and Suncheon for period dramas. It is included in the pass.
- Seonamsa (선암사): a mountain temple, now part of the UNESCO "Sansa" listing. It isn't in the pass and charges its own small entry fee. Bus 1 runs about 12 times a day.
Where to stay in Suncheon for one night
Suncheon is small, so the choice is about your next morning:
| Base | Best for | To the garden / wetland | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Around Suncheon Station | An early KTX out, or a late one in | Bus 66 from across the road: about 21 / 35 min | Practical rather than scenic |
| Near the garden (Pungdeok-dong, Ocheon-dong) | A slow morning at the garden, or the night ticket | Walk to the garden; bus 66 or SkyCube to the wetland | Taxi or bus to the station for your train |
| On the road to the wetland | Sunrise on the bay, cranes in the fields | Walk to the wetland; bus 66 to the garden | Fewer rooms, and quiet once the wetland closes |
For a first visit with a train either side, the station area is the safest choice. It sits on bus 66, the same bus covers both sites, and Naganeupseong buses also stop there.
Stay near the garden for the ₩5,000 night ticket or a slow morning with children, and out by the wetland only for the birds and the dawn light.
Suncheon stays on Agoda: station area for trains, garden side for a slow morning Search Suncheon-si and look at the map. Pick around Suncheon Station if you're catching the 22:15 KTX the next evening or an early train. Pick near the garden if the garden's night ticket or a lazy morning matters more. A note on the name: "South Jeolla" in 2026
This guide says South Jeolla (전라남도), as most maps still do. Since 1 July 2026, South Jeolla and Gwangju have been merged into the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (전남광주통합특별시). Suncheon is still a city within it, and the wetland's address now begins 전남광주통합특별시 순천시.
FAQ
Q: Is the Suncheon Bay ticket the same for the National Garden and the wetland? A: Yes. As of October 2026, an adult ticket is ₩10,000 and covers both Suncheon Bay National Garden and Suncheon Bay Wetland on the same day. Buy it at either site and show it at the other.
Q: When is Suncheon Bay closed? A: Both the garden and the wetland close on the last Monday of every month: 26 October and 30 November 2026. The SkyCube, the reed train and the eco boat also close every Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday).
Q: How do I get from Suncheon Station to Suncheon Bay? A: City bus 66, from the stop across the road from the station. It takes about 21 minutes to the garden's east gate and about 35 minutes to the wetland. The fare is ₩1,400 by transport card or ₩1,500 cash.
Q: Can I do Suncheon Bay as a day trip from Seoul? A: Yes, if you take an early KTX from Yongsan (05:08 arriving 07:51) and the last one back (22:15 arriving 00:44), at ₩42,300 each way. It makes for a long day. Staying one night lets you see the reeds at sunset and use the ₩12,000 city pass for Naganeupseong the next morning.
