Korean Folk Village (한국민속촌, Hanguk Minsokchon) in Yongin is the place where a Joseon-era (조선) village, a farmers' dance arena, a small amusement park and, this autumn, a run of Joseon-themed horror attractions all share one ticket gate. It is also the one big day trip near Seoul where foreigners pay less than Koreans: ₩22,000 against a ₩39,000 weekend adult ticket.

The official fee page (이용 요금) has all-day, afternoon and weekend night tickets. Child prices cover 36 months to the end of elementary school; younger infants enter free with proof of age.

The foreigner rate is not the cheapest ticket this month. The official ticket shop (이용권 구매) sells October-only online tickets at heavy discounts: ₩24,000 for a weekend all-day ticket, ₩22,000 for a weekday all-day ticket, ₩20,000 for the 14:00 ticket, ₩19,000 for the 16:00 ticket and ₩17,000 for the 18:00 ticket (Friday to Sunday only). Group bundles run ₩64,900 for three people and ₩84,900 for four. They are labelled "October tickets" (10월달 이용권), so November prices will differ.
Two discounts worth knowing before you go
The monthly discount page (이달의 할인) lists three offers a foreign visitor can use, none of which English travel sites carry:
- Public-transport discount (대중교통 이용할인), ₩17,000. For visitors who arrive by bus or subway. The conditions, translated from the official page: buy at the ticket office or the self-service kiosk; arrive within 30 minutes of tapping off your last bus or train; your transit card is the proof (교통카드 증빙 필수); not sold after 18:00; no stacking with other discounts. Listed until 31 October 2026. A T-money or WOWPASS card works as the proof because the tap-off is recorded on the card (how those cards work).
- Hanbok discount (한복 착용 할인), ₩19,000. For the person wearing it, checked at the ticket window. The rule is specific: a jeogori top with a tie ribbon (고름, goreum) plus a hanbok skirt or hanbok trousers. A modern hanbok-style jacket over jeans does not count. Also listed until 31 October. On-site hanbok rental: 031-288-2987 (how rental works).
- October birthday discount (생일자 할인), ₩13,000. For the person whose birthday falls in October, paid at the ticket office with ID and proof of the birth date (a passport shows both); up to three companions pay ₩20,000 each. Listed 1–31 October 2026 only.
The FAQ is blunt about one more thing: discounts never combine (모든 할인은 중복 적용이 되지 않습니다). Pick the single best one.

Opening hours, night opening and closing days
The village has no closing day (연중무휴, per its FAQ); only the closing time changes, month by month, in its notices (공지사항).
For mid-October 2026, the official site lists 10:00–19:00 on weekdays and 10:00–22:00 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, the night opening (야간 개장). The September notice followed the same pattern (Monday–Thursday 10:00–19:00, Friday–Sunday 10:00–22:00), and the night season, branded "Dalbit-eul Deohada" (달빛을 더하다, roughly "adding moonlight"), runs from 11 April to 15 November 2026.
Three rules matter more than the posted hours:
- Ticket sales close one hour before closing. On a 19:00 weekday, the last ticket is sold at 18:00.
- The rides open 30 minutes after the gate. The amusement section (놀이마을) starts at 10:30, and rides can stop without notice for rain, strong wind, cold or safety checks.
- There is no re-entry. Leave for lunch outside and you buy a new ticket.
The November 2026 hours had not been posted on 15 October. Last year's November notice is the best guide to what to expect: weekdays 10:00–18:00, and the night opening on Fridays, weekends and holidays was cut from 22:00 to 20:00 after 10 November. That is last year's pattern, not a 2026 schedule.
What is actually inside: the village, the shows, the rides
The Folk Village is three places in one gate. The folk village (민속마을) is the large part: around a creek, with restored late-Joseon houses, each numbered on the village map, a government office, a market street (상가마을) with food stalls, and a farm with a thatched lookout shelter. The amusement section (놀이마을) has 14 attractions on the official list, including a Viking ship, bumper cars, a family coaster and a carousel, but nothing close to an Everland coaster. And there are the performances.
Here is the official performance list as it stood on 15 October. "37" means house 37, the sand arena (공연장); "19" is the Wanhyangru pavilion (완향루).

Two shows were marked "off today" (오늘은 쉽니다) when we checked; the page updates daily. Older English guides promise tightrope walking and horseback martial arts; neither is on the 2026 list.
Autumn 2026: the horror season and the night opening
In 2026 the village's autumn evenings are built around Joseon-themed horror: haunted caves, a phone-guided ghost trail and a murder-mystery trail, all inside the same grounds. The official event pages list these:

What matters for a visitor:
- The haunted caves need admission plus their own ticket, booked online for a time slot or bought at the kiosk by house 54. Under-13s need a guardian; visitors 65 and over, pregnant visitors and anyone with a heart condition are refused. To quit mid-route, cross your arms in an X above your head.
- The ghost trail runs on your phone: start at the Naesammun gate and scan ginkgo-leaf QR codes around the dark village. One ticket covers a group, so one dead battery ends everyone's night.
- None of this runs Monday to Thursday. A weekday evening visit is just the village at dusk.
Some Korean blog guides quote ₩17,000 for the horror attractions. The official pages print ₩16,000 and ₩11,000; the only ₩17,000 product is the online 18:00 admission ticket.
How to get to the Korean Folk Village
There is no subway station at the gate; every public-transport route ends with a bus. The official directions page (교통 정보) lists these:

About the Suwon shuttle. Older English guides send you to a free shuttle bus from Suwon Station. The official directions page no longer lists any shuttle; it sends Suwon arrivals to Exit 4 and city buses 10-5 or 37. Don't wait at the old shuttle stop. The village's ticket shop does sell a "T-money shuttle + admission package" (티머니 셔틀+입장권 패키지) for ₩48,000, valid Friday to Sunday, through the T-money GO app. We could not load the product page, so check its departure point and times in the app before you rely on it.
By car or taxi, the parking fee is ₩2,000 for a car and ₩3,000 for a large vehicle. Search 한국민속촌 in Naver Map or KakaoMap, not Google Maps (why).
Combining the Folk Village with Everland: the Giheung route
Everland is also in Yongin, and the Folk Village's own FAQ gives the transfer. The rail version: bus 37 from the Folk Village to Sanggal Station, the Suin-Bundang Line one stop to Giheung (기흥), then the Everline (에버라인) light rail to Jeondae·Everland Station (전대·에버랜드역).
Both parks in one day is rushed. A Suwon day pairs better: bus 10-5 starts at Suwon Station, near Hwaseong Fortress.

When not to go to the Korean Folk Village
- In heavy rain. The FAQ says performances are scaled down to a pavilion or cancelled, outdoor rides stop, and only 4 to 8 attractions keep running. You still pay the full price. Lotte World is the rain-day answer (our rainy-season guide).
- For roller coasters. Go to Everland.
- On a Monday-to-Thursday evening in autumn. The horror attractions and night show run only Friday to Sunday and on holidays.
- Expecting a live English guide. Interpreter tours need 10+ people booked 7 days ahead through Yongin City (031-324-2068); individuals get a ₩2,000 audio guide in English, Japanese, Chinese or Korean.

Lockers inside the main gate cost ₩1,000–₩3,000. Bikes, scooters, inline skates and balls are not allowed in, including children's tricycles. The village's phone line is 031-288-0000 (10:00–18:00 daily). On 8 September 2026 the village also posted a notice denying reports that it was being sold (매각설 사실무근); nothing about tickets or opening has changed.
