Seoul to Jeju, Korea: Gimpo–Jeju Flights by Airline, Real Fares by Month, Baggage Limits and Getting to Gimpo

EpicKor Editorial|

Last updated: 5 November 2026. Flight counts, first and last departures, airlines and fare levels for Gimpo–Jeju come from KAYAK Korea's route page, read on 5 November 2026. Fares change daily, so treat them as ranges, not quotes. Passenger and seat totals come from IATA via NewDaily (20 July 2026) and from OAG (2025). November fuel surcharges come from Korean press (Topstar News, 1 November 2026) and Tourvis's surcharge notice. The domestic departure steps and ID rules are from Korea Airports Corporation's Gimpo pages. Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air, Jin Air and Trinity's own fare, baggage and surcharge pages did not open for our tools (blocked or timed out) on 5 November 2026. Where we rely on secondary sources, we say so. ₩1,340 = US$1, rounded. Sources are listed at the end.

Seoul to Jeju means Gimpo to Jeju. Every flight on this route leaves from Gimpo Airport's domestic terminal (김포공항 국내선), not Incheon. KAYAK's two-week sample counted 733 direct Gimpo–Jeju flights a week, about 102 to 107 a day, on nine airlines, from 06:00 to the last departure at 21:00. Each flight takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. One-way fares start near ₩37,000 ($28) on quiet evenings. A full-fare weekend seat on Korean Air can cost three to four times that.

The cheap fare is only cheap if it fits your bag. Most budget airlines' lowest fares include no checked bag at all. The fare you are shown also includes a fuel surcharge: ₩25,300 ($19) per flight on November 2026 tickets for Korean Air and most budget airlines (Asiana and Parata Air unconfirmed).

This guide covers the route itself: who flies it, when, what it costs by season, what each fare lets you check in, the ID you need and how to reach Gimpo from Myeongdong, Hongdae or Gangnam. For a wider comparison of Korean airlines, alliances and international baggage, see our guide to every Korean airline.

Who flies Gimpo–Jeju, and how often

The numbers explain why this route never sells out the way a Japanese route can. IATA counted 13.3 million passengers on Gimpo–Jeju in 2025, the most of any airport pair in the world for the second year running (13.2 million in 2024). OAG, which counts scheduled seats, put the route at 14.4 million seats in 2025, about 39,000 a day. Japan's busiest route, Sapporo–Tokyo Haneda, came second with 12.1 million.

In flights, that works out at roughly one departure every eight or nine minutes through the day. KAYAK's two-week count, read on 5 November 2026, found:

KAYAK published weekly counts only for the top three airlines. We could not open Gimpo Airport's own schedule search to count the rest. Some of the smaller carriers' listings may be codeshares, so check the "operated by" line when you book.

There are more flights, but fewer seats. In March 2026, Korea's transport ministry and competition regulator moved 13 Gimpo–Jeju slots from the merging Korean Air and Asiana to four budget airlines: Eastar 6, Jeju Air 4, Parata 2 and T'way 1. The budget airlines fly smaller aircraft. NewDaily reported that in June 2026 there were 3,022 Jeju→Gimpo flights, 343 fewer than a year earlier (about 11 fewer a day). Domestic seats at Jeju Airport fell 9.1%. Fewer seats is one reason fares stayed high through summer and autumn.

First and last flights

The day starts with the 06:00 departure (arriving 07:15) and ends with the 21:00 (arriving 22:15). Gimpo has a night curfew, so you will not find a red-eye.

Before booking the last flight, check the bus. From Jeju Airport, the last 600 limousine to Jungmun and Seogwipo leaves at 22:20, the last 601 to Jungmun at 21:02, and the last 800 to Seogwipo's bus terminal at 20:15 (Jeju buses, where to stay). Landing at 22:15 with only a cabin bag, you might just make the 22:20 600, but it is tight; with checked luggage, assume you will miss it. For Seogwipo by the 800, land by about 19:30. Otherwise sleep in Jeju City that night or budget for a taxi.

Jeju stays on Agoda: pick the area before you pick the flight. If you will land on the 21:00 departure, look at Jeju City near the airport, Sinjeju or Tapdong. A Jungmun or Seogwipo hotel means a long ride after the last bus has gone. If you land in the morning, any base works. EpicKor may earn a commission if you book through this Agoda link, at no extra cost to you. Confirm dates, taxes, cancellation terms, room type and the final price on Agoda before booking.

One rule first: domestic fares change by the hour. Below are ranges and the dates we read them, not a fare you can hold anyone to. Every figure includes the fuel surcharge for the month the ticket was priced.

Time of day matters as much as the month. KAYAK's averages put night departures at ₩95,194 for a round trip and morning departures at ₩130,379 ($71 against $97). KAYAK also counts Saturday as the busiest day for flights. Weekend mornings are when Korean holidaymakers fly, so a weekday evening is the usual place to look for a low fare.

What makes a cheap date expensive:

  • Korean public holidays. Airlines set their own peak periods, and a Korean travel blog reports that Jeju Air does not sell discount fares on its peak days, even midweek. We could not check this on Jeju Air's site. Coming up: Christmas and New Year, and Seollal 2027, 6–9 February. Book those dates early or avoid them.
  • The school summer holiday, late July to late August. It makes August one of the two dearest months.
  • Autumn weekends. October was the dearest month in KAYAK's data, ahead of August. KAYAK gives no reason; our guess is the autumn holiday weekends and the good weather.

Where to book. The airlines' Korean sites and apps usually show the lowest fare with the clearest bag rules. Korean comparison sites list every airline at once, but you finish the booking with the airline or an agent. If you book through an agent, its cancellation terms apply, and we cover why that matters below.

The fuel surcharge for November 2026: ₩25,300 a flight

Korean domestic fares include a fuel surcharge (유류할증료). It is set each month and applies by the date you buy the ticket, not the date you fly. If it rises after you buy, you do not pay the difference. If it falls, you do not get a refund.

For tickets issued 1–30 November 2026, Topstar News (1 November) reported ₩25,300 one way for Jeju Air, Jin Air, Eastar Jet, Air Busan, Air Seoul and Trinity. Korean Air's ₩25,300 comes from a travel agency's notice (Tourvis). We found no figure for Asiana or Parata Air:

AirlineOctober 2026November 2026Status
Korean Air₩20,900₩25,300Both figures from Tourvis's surcharge notice (a travel agency, not the airline)

Air Busannot stated₩25,300Topstar News, 1 Nov 2026
Parata Airnot foundCheck at booking

₩25,300 is high, but not the 2026 peak. The domestic surcharge was ₩6,600 in March and ₩7,700 in April. Then oil prices jumped and it rose to ₩34,100 for May tickets, the highest since the current system began in 2016 (Segye Ilbo). For September tickets Korean Air's was ₩20,900 (Money Today). On a ₩37,000 sale fare, the surcharge is about two-thirds of what you pay. That is why domestic sale fares no longer go much below ₩30,000.

December's figure is usually announced in mid-November. If it goes up, a ticket bought in November for a December flight still carries November's ₩25,300. We would not delay buying just to wait for the new rate.

Baggage on Gimpo–Jeju: what each fare lets you check in

Domestic allowances are smaller than international ones, and the budget airlines split them by fare. The figures below are domestic economy, per passenger. They come from a Korean compilation dated 3 September 2026, which says it follows each airline's official September notices. The airlines' own baggage pages did not open for our tools on 5 November, so check the fare screen before you pay.

How to use the table:

  1. Travelling with only a cabin bag? Take the cheapest fare on any airline. Ten kilograms is plenty for a weekend.
  2. One suitcase under 15 kg? Compare Jin Air or Air Seoul's cheapest fare with the others' middle fares. Often the cheapest seat with a bag included is on one of those two.
  3. Over 15 kg, or golf clubs or a big suitcase? Korean Air or Asiana's 20 kg is often worth the extra, or buy a higher fare. Excess baggage at the airport counter is the most expensive way to pay. Excess is charged per kilo or per block of kilos, and the rate differs by airline; we could not confirm a current rate on the airlines' own pages, so check yours. Budget airlines usually charge less if you buy the extra allowance online.
  4. Buy extra bag allowance before you fly. The same September compilation lists ₩10,000 ($7.50) for 15 kg bought in advance on Jeju Air. That is cheaper than most fare upgrades. We could not confirm the price on Jeju Air's own page.

A 15 kg limit is easy to break with one suitcase and a bag of Jeju tangerines on the way home. If you are flying back to Seoul for an international flight, the 23 kg allowance on your international ticket usually applies to the domestic flight only when both flights are on one ticket. For international allowances and the full airline comparison, see our Korean airline guide.

Etekcity digital luggage scale: a pocket hook scale that reads to 50 kg. A 15 kg domestic limit is easy to go over by a kilo or two, especially on the way back with tangerines or Hallabong boxes. Weigh the bag at the hotel and move the heavy things into your cabin bag before the counter does it for you. It is not worth buying if you are on a cabin-bag-only fare. ID rules for foreigners on Korean domestic flights

There is no immigration or customs on Gimpo–Jeju, but there is an identity check, and it is strict.

  • Bring your passport. On Gimpo's departure steps, Korea Airports Corporation says passengers show "an ID (resident registration card, driver's licence, passport, etc.) and the ticket" to the guard at the departure-hall entrance (출발장 입구), before security. For a visitor, that means the passport.
  • Name match. The name on your booking must match your passport. Book in English exactly as it is printed, surname and given names in the right boxes.
  • Foreign residents can use an Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증). Korean Air's domestic boarding page lists the passport among accepted photo IDs, including for foreigners. Korea's mobile ID is accepted for those who have one, but most visitors will not.
  • The palm-vein fast lane is not for most visitors. Gimpo's bio-registration (손정맥, palm-vein) lane lets registered passengers go through without showing an ID card. App pre-registration is for ages 14 and over; children aged 7 to 13 can register only at a staffed desk. Gimpo's page lists a passport among the documents for registering, but does not say whether foreign passports qualify. We would not plan on it.

Lost your passport in Jeju? Without photo ID you may be refused boarding. Korean press has reported passengers turned away because an emergency travel document was not on the transport ministry's list of valid IDs. Contact your embassy before you go to the airport.

Getting to Gimpo's domestic terminal, and how early to arrive

"Jeju Air Gimpo terminal" has one answer: all Gimpo–Jeju flights, Jeju Air included, use the domestic terminal (국내선 청사). It is a separate building from the international terminal, but both connect to Gimpo Airport Station (김포공항역). That station serves AREX, Line 5, Line 9, the Gimpo Goldline and the Seohae Line. Follow the signs for Domestic Flights / 국내선. If you end up at the international terminal, a free shuttle bus runs between the two every 12–15 minutes from 08:00 to 23:00.

These are the reverse of the trips in our Gimpo to Seoul guide, where the fares and minutes come from the AREX and Line 9 timetables:

FromBest train to Gimpo Airport StationFare (transit card)Time
Hongdae (홍대입구)AREX all-stop train, no change₩1,650 ($1.25)15 min
Seoul StationAREX all-stop. The AREX express does not stop at Gimpo₩1,75022 min
Myeongdong (명동)Line 4 two stops to Seoul Station, then AREX all-stopabout ₩1,750–1,850about 35–45 min with the change (our estimate)
Gangnam (Sinnonhyeon, Express Bus Terminal)Line 9 express (red sign). A local takes about 54 minabout ₩1,750–1,850about 30–36 min
Gwanghwamun, Jongno, DongdaemunLine 5, no changeabout ₩1,750–1,850Not confirmed. We could not read a current Line 5 timetable

With a suitcase from Myeongdong, the change at Seoul Station is a long walk with escalators. A taxi to Gimpo is easier. The airport estimates about ₩20,000 and 50 minutes to the Myeongdong area, more in rush hour.

For a 06:00 flight, check your first train before you rely on it: from many parts of the city it may not get you there in time. Staying near Gimpo the night before, or a taxi, is the safer plan.

How early to arrive

  • Check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes before departure at Korean Air, Jeju Air and Trinity. For other airlines, check the cut-off on your booking. Miss the cut-off and you are on the next flight, if it has a seat.
  • Boarding gates close shortly before departure. Jeju Air boards from 20 minutes and closes the gate at 10 minutes before. For other airlines, check the boarding time on your pass.
  • Our advice: arrive an hour before on a weekday with a bag to check, 90 minutes before on Friday evening, Saturday morning or a holiday, and 2 hours or more on the first morning of Seollal or Chuseok. With only a cabin bag and online check-in, 40 minutes is enough on a quiet weekday.

The airport's own departure steps are: arrive → airline check-in and bag drop → ID and boarding-pass check at the departure-hall entrance → security → wait at the gate.

The honest downsides: winter cancellations and a shrinking route

Winter weather is the biggest risk. Jeju Airport sits on an exposed coast, and from December to February strong crosswinds and snow regularly stop the runway. On 8 February 2026, snow closed the runway in the early morning. By late morning 155 of 461 scheduled flights had been cancelled and 5 more diverted or returned. By 7 pm, domestic cancellations had risen to 166. The runway reopened at 11:00, and the queues at airline counters took the rest of the day. The airport's advice was to check your flight status on the airline's site or app before leaving for the airport. Strong wind can also cancel flights in summer: on 12 July 2026, 105 flights were cancelled. The problem is worst in winter.

What that means for your plan:

  • Never fly back from Jeju on the same day as an international flight from Incheon or Gimpo, at least from December to February. Leave a day of slack.
  • Book the outbound and return on the same airline. If an agent sold you two airlines and the first flight is cancelled, Korean agents say the return is refunded without a fee only if you send the cancellation confirmation before the return flight. Each refund is handled separately.
  • After a cancellation, rebooking is first come, first served. If no seat is left that day, you queue at the counter the next morning. A Jeju City room (see the Agoda box earlier in this guide) is cheaper than a night in the terminal.

Asiana disappears on 17 December 2026. Its flights and bookings move to Korean Air. If you hold an Asiana ticket for a date after that, check your booking on Korean Air's site.

The ferry is not a cheap escape. The Mokpo or Wando ferry plus a KTX from Seoul usually costs more than a sale flight, takes most of a day, and is also cancelled in high winds (ferry to Jeju compared). It makes sense only if you are bringing a car or are already in the south-west.

FAQ

Q: How long is the flight from Gimpo to Jeju?

A: About 1 hour 15 minutes on the timetable. The time in the air is a little shorter. Allow at least two and a half hours door to door from central Seoul, including the train, check-in and security.

Q: How many flights a day are there from Seoul to Jeju?

A: About 102 to 107 a day from Gimpo to Jeju (733 a week in KAYAK's count, November 2026), from 06:00 to 21:00.

Q: How much is a Gimpo to Jeju flight?

A: On 5 November 2026, one-way fares started at about ₩37,000 ($28) for a weekday evening in late November. Round trips in August and October averaged about ₩146,000–147,000 ($109–110). A full-fare weekend seat on Korean Air can reach about ₩130,000 one way. All fares include the fuel surcharge: ₩25,300 per flight on November tickets for Korean Air and most budget airlines (Asiana and Parata Air unconfirmed).

Q: What is the cheapest month to fly to Jeju?

A: KAYAK's 12-month data names January (₩73,524 average for a return leg) as the cheapest, and October and August (round-trip averages of about ₩146,000–147,000) as the dearest. KAYAK measures these in different units, so treat it as a ranking, not a price gap. Avoid the Seollal holiday. Within any month, evening departures are usually cheaper than morning ones.

Q: Which terminal does Jeju Air use at Gimpo?

A: The domestic terminal (국내선), like every Gimpo–Jeju flight. The international terminal is a separate building with a free shuttle between them.

Q: Can a foreigner fly domestic in Korea with a passport?

A: Yes. You show your passport and boarding pass at the departure-hall entrance before security. There is no immigration. Foreign residents can use an Alien Registration Card.

Q: How much baggage can I take from Gimpo to Jeju?

A: Korean Air and Asiana include 20 kg on economy. Jin Air and Air Seoul include 15 kg on every fare. Jeju Air, Trinity, Eastar Jet and Air Busan include 15 kg on most fares, but nothing on their cheapest sale fares. The cabin bag limit is 10 kg on all of them.

Q: Should I fly from Incheon to Jeju instead?

A: Usually not. Incheon–Jeju has only a few flights a day, mostly for passengers connecting from international flights. From central Seoul, Gimpo is closer and has far more flights.
