Hot Springs Near Seoul, Korea: Onyang, Dogo, Suanbo Prices and Trains

EpicKor Editorial|

Last updated: 20 October 2026. Visitor numbers, water temperatures and facility counts are from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 「2026 전국 온천 현황」 (2026 National Hot Spring Status), which counts the year to 31 December 2025 and was published in July 2026. Entry prices and opening hours were read on 20 October 2026 from each operator's own Korean page: Asan Spavis (아산스파비스), Paradise Spa Dogo (파라다이스 스파 도고) and Termeden (테르메덴). Train times and fares are Korail's timetable for 20 October 2026. Dollar figures use ₩1,342 to the US dollar. Sources are at the end.

English travel lists of hot springs near Seoul rarely name the ones Koreans actually use. The Korean government counts hot spring visits every year, and its newest count says the busiest hot spring town in Korea in 2025 was Onyang (온양) in Asan: 3,516,000 visits, more than famous Bugok in the far south. Onyang is 1 hour 23 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes from Yongsan Station on a train that costs ₩7,000 (about $5).

Korea as a whole logged 60.2 million hot spring visits in 2025. This guide narrows that count to the towns you can reach from Seoul in a day: Onyang, Asan Spa and Dogo in Asan, Suanbo in Chungju, Yuseong in Daejeon and Termeden in Icheon, with what each one charges at the door in October 2026.

Several people, mostly older men, sit on a wooden ledge under a wooden roof with their trousers rolled up and their feet in a shallow channel of hot spring water, shoes and a bag on the deck in front, with a Korean street of shops and pedestrians behind.

Visits and temperatures (the hottest well in each zone) are the ministry's 2025 figures; Yuseong's and Suanbo's visits are unchanged from the 2024 report as submitted. Prices are October 2026 adult prices. Korea's legal minimum for a hot spring is 25℃, so Dogo, Asan Spa and Termeden heat their pools.

The 2025 count: Onyang is now Korea's busiest hot spring

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (행정안전부) collects each hot spring zone's visits from local governments every year. The 2026 edition, covering 2025, was posted on 7 July 2026:

  • 60.2 million visits in 2025, up 1.11 million (1.1%) on 2024's 59.09 million. The report says use has "mostly recovered" to the 2019 level of about 60 million.
  • 566 businesses use hot spring water, 11 more than a year earlier. Ordinary bathhouses fell from 236 to 204, while large resorts with baths and rooms grew.
  • 438 hot spring areas (379 designated districts and zones plus 59 still going through designation), with an average water temperature of 30.7℃. The hottest is Bugok in Changnyeong at 78℃; the shallowest well is Dongnae in Busan at 207 metres.

The ranking changed. In 2024 the top three were Bugok, Onyang and Deoksan; in 2025 they were (the other zones in this guide are in the Quick Guide above):

Rank, 2025Hot spring zoneProvinceVisits, 2025Note
1Onyang (온양)South Chungcheong (Asan)3,516,000Up from #2. 26 businesses use its water
2Bugok (부곡)South Gyeongsang (Changnyeong)3,006,000Down from #1; Korea's hottest water, 78℃
3Seokjeong (석정)North Jeolla (Gochang)2,730,000New lodging opened April 2025; the report puts its rise at about sixfold

For a Seoul-based traveller, Asan city alone holds three of the zones (Onyang, Asan Spa and Dogo), about 6 million visits between them, all on the same railway line south of Seoul.

Onyang did not go to the top by growing: it fell from 4.26 million visits in 2024 to 3.52 million (−17%). Bugok fell harder, from 4.68 million to 3.01 million (−36%), and Deoksan from 3.42 million to 1.94 million, while South Chungcheong as a whole lost 2.07 million. Onyang simply shrank less than its rivals.

The government also names "Hot Spring Cities" (온천도시). The first three, Chungju (Suanbo), Asan (Onyang, Dogo) and Changnyeong (Bugok), were designated on 13 September 2023; Dongnae in Busan became the fourth on 1 October 2026. Two of the four are within two hours of Seoul.

Onyang: the old royal spa, by train from Yongsan

Joseon kings came to Onyang to bathe, and the ministry's table records the spring's discovery date simply as "1458". The railway reached the town in 1922.

Getting there. Trains for the Janghang Line leave from Yongsan Station (some stop at Yeongdeungpo). Korail's timetable for Tuesday 20 October 2026 lists 15 trains from Yongsan to Onyang Oncheon Station (온양온천역), the first at 05:32 and the last at 20:43:

TrainJourney timeAdult fare, standard seatDepartures from Yongsan, 20 Oct 2026
Mugunghwa (무궁화)1 h 28 min – 1 h 35 min₩7,000 (≈ $5)05:32, 06:18, 07:24, 10:33, 12:53, 14:25, 16:25, 18:21, 20:43
ITX-Saemaeul / ITX-Maum1 h 23 min – 1 h 32 min₩10,400 (≈ $8)06:50, 09:14, 12:33, 13:43, 15:28, 17:52

The last Mugunghwa back to Yongsan leaves at 22:26. Subway Line 1 also reaches Onyang Oncheon, but slowly. By KTX, get off at Cheonan-Asan and change to Line 1 at the connected Asan station, three stops from Onyang Oncheon.

What to do there. Onyang is a town of bathhouses rather than one resort, several within a few minutes' walk of the station. Expect ordinary Korean bathhouse prices: the government's consumer price service put the average adult public bath in Seoul at ₩11,000 in September 2026, the highest of any region, and most provinces charge ₩8,100–10,600 (regional table). The landmark Onyang Tourist Hotel (온양관광호텔, opened 1960) announced a closure in late 2021 but is still taking bookings in 2026; booking sites list its bath at 06:00–20:00, closed the third Tuesday of each month. The free foot bath by the station and the hot spring market needs only a small towel.

Asan Spavis: ₩12,000 bath, ₩50,000 water park

Asan Spavis (아산스파비스), run by Kumho Resort, is the big hot spring water park in the Asan Spa zone, in Eumbong-myeon. That is not Onyang town. From Onyang Oncheon Station exit 1, the stop in front of UL City (정류장 744) has buses 503 and 981, 20 to 30 minutes; a taxi is about ₩15,000. From Cheonan-Asan KTX station there is no direct bus; Spavis quotes ₩20,000–₩25,000 by taxi.

Spavis's "middle season" prices, which its page says run from September to December 2026:

Ticket (Korean)What you getAdult price
Hot spring bath (온천, 대욕장/사우나)The single-sex bathhouse and saunas₩12,000 (≈ $9)
Spa (스파, 워터파크+온천)Indoor and outdoor hot spring pools plus the bath₩50,000 (≈ $37)
Afternoon ticket (오후권, after 14:00)Same as the spa ticket, bought on site only₩20,000 (≈ $15)
Over-65 / disability / birthday weekWith ID₩25,000 spa, ₩9,600 bath

From 12 October to 23 December 2026 the bathhouse is open 09:00–18:00 every day and the indoor and outdoor pools 10:00–17:00; the lazy river is shut for the season, and beach towels rent for ₩5,000. In autumn the ₩20,000 afternoon ticket is the best value: three hours in the pools, which close at 17:00 anyway, for less than half the day price.

Paradise Spa Dogo: sulphur water and a cypress tub

Paradise Spa Dogo (파라다이스 스파 도고), run by the Paradise group, is the resort in the Dogo zone, west of Onyang in Dogo-myeon. Dogo's water is the one in this guide with sulphur in it (the ministry lists hydrogen sulphide), but it comes out of the ground at only 28.8℃, so it is heated.

Its prices for the second-half "low season", 1 September to 17 December 2026:

TicketWeekday (Mon–Fri)Weekend and public holidays
Hot spring bath only (온천)₩13,000 (≈ $10)₩13,000
Spa: bath + indoor and outdoor pools₩45,000 (≈ $34)₩53,000 (≈ $39)
Sunset Spa, tickets from 15:00, no discounts₩30,000₩30,000
Night Spa, tickets from 17:00 (Fri–Sun and holidays only)–₩23,000

In the low season the bathhouse opens 08:00–20:00 on weekdays and 08:00–22:00 at weekends; the indoor pool closes an hour earlier. The baths have saunas and an open-air hinoki (cypress) tub, and the men's and women's sides swap every day. Pool towels rent for ₩5,000 plus a ₩2,000 deposit; no outside food, and the food court runs ₩8,500 to ₩16,000.

Getting there. Paradise's own directions: a Mugunghwa from Yongsan to Dogo Oncheon Station (도고온천역), 1 hour 40–47 minutes for ₩7,700 (eight a day on 20 October 2026), then a five-minute city bus; or from Onyang Oncheon Station, city buses 430, 450, 451, 41, 42 and 43, about 30 minutes. Not every Mugunghwa stops at Dogo Oncheon.

Suanbo: Korea's mountain hot spring town, 80 minutes from Pangyo

Suanbo (수안보) in Chungju is the classic Korean hot spring village: hotels with their own bathhouses in a narrow valley, water at 53℃. Since the Jungbu Naeryuk Line was extended in late 2024, KTX-Eum trains stop at Suanbo Oncheon Station (수안보온천역).

  • Train: Korail's timetable for 20 October 2026 shows four KTX-Eum trains a day from Pangyo, at 08:22, 12:31, 16:45 and 20:56, each 1 hour 20 minutes, ₩15,000 (≈ $11) in a standard seat. Pangyo is on the Shinbundang Line from Gangnam; book both directions ahead.
  • The last kilometre: the station is outside the village, about four minutes by car, and a January 2026 Korean press report quoted visitors waiting a long time for a taxi. Book your return taxi, or ask your hotel.
  • Bus: Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Suanbo, about 2 hours 20 minutes, ₩16,000.

Suanbo's baths are mostly inside its hotels, which sell day entry at ordinary bathhouse prices. The free foot bath (수안보온천 족욕길) runs 12:00–20:00 from March to November and 12:00–17:00 from December to February, and is closed on Mondays (Mondays and Tuesdays in winter), according to Chungju's tourism listing.

Yuseong and Termeden: the city spa and the forest pool

Yuseong (유성), in Daejeon, is a hot spring inside a city: 54 businesses use its 56℃ water, the most of any zone in this guide. Take a KTX from Seoul to Daejeon (about an hour, ₩21,600, about $16, on 20 October 2026), then Daejeon Metro Line 1 to Yuseong Spa station (유성온천역). The free foot bath in the photo at the top of this page is in the hotel district near the station. Our Daejeon day trip guide has the rest of the city, including Sungsimdang.

Termeden (테르메덴) in Icheon, Gyeonggi, is a German-style "Bade" pool with outdoor hot spring pools in 4,000 pyeong of forest, and caravans and hanok rooms on site. Before you go in October:

  • It is closed for autumn maintenance from 12 to 22 October 2026; when it reopens on 23 October, some outdoor-pool facilities stay shut for the season.
  • From 1 September to 28 October it is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday ("clean days").
  • Tickets come as a full day, an afternoon ticket from 14:00 and a night ticket from 17:00. Termeden's site showed no price table when we checked; compare prices on Korean ticket sites for your date.

Etiquette: what a foreigner needs to know before the first visit

A Korean hot spring has two halves with different rules.

  1. The bath (온천탕, 대욕장) is nude and single-sex. Undress completely, wash thoroughly before any tub, no swimsuit. Long hair goes up; the small towel stays out of the water. The ₩12,000–₩13,000 tickets are this half only.
  2. Children aged 4 and over cannot go into the other sex's bath. Spavis and Paradise both quote the Public Health Control Act rule and ask for proof of age.
  3. The spa or water park half is swimwear, mixed, and cap-friendly. Spavis asks for a swim cap in the pools; Paradise forbids heeled aqua shoes, slippers and sandals in the water and does not allow outside food.
  4. No photos in the changing areas. Termeden's user guide bans photography in changing rooms, sauna and powder room; every Korean bathhouse expects the same.
  5. Tattoos. Spavis's and Paradise Spa Dogo's usage pages, read on 20 October 2026, say nothing about tattoos; rules elsewhere differ (see our Korean spa tattoo rules guide). With large tattoos, call ahead (Spavis 041-539-2000, Paradise Spa Dogo 041-537-7100).
  6. Drink water and keep the first soak short. Paradise asks people not to bathe within 30 minutes of a meal or after drinking, and asks pregnant women and people with heart conditions, high blood pressure or diabetes to avoid the sauna.

New to Korean bathhouses? Our jjimjilbang etiquette guide covers the same routine.

Best time to go: weekday mornings. Paradise charges more at weekends and may limit entry when full; at Paradise and Termeden, entry is first come, first in, even with an online ticket. Autumn and winter are the season for the bath itself; the outdoor pools close early from mid-October.

Day trip or overnight?

Onyang and Dogo work as day trips: 90 to 105 minutes each way, ₩14,000 to ₩21,000 in train fares. Suanbo is where a night pays off: four trains a day and few taxis at the station.

For Suanbo, the same Agoda search under Chungju lists the hotels in the village. Going further south anyway? Bugok, the hottest water in Korea, and Busan's Dongnae, the newest Hot Spring City, are easier from Busan than from Seoul; our Seoul–Busan KTX vs bus guide has the October fares.

FAQ

Q: What is the best hot spring near Seoul?

A: By the government's 2025 count, the most visited is Onyang in Asan, with 3,516,000 visits, the most in Korea. It is also the easiest: about 90 minutes from Yongsan by train for ₩7,000–₩10,400. For hot spring pools, Asan Spavis and Paradise Spa Dogo are a bus ride from Onyang.

Q: How much does a Korean hot spring cost?

A: The bathhouse half costs about the same as an ordinary Korean bathhouse: ₩12,000 at Spavis and ₩13,000 at Paradise Spa Dogo in October 2026. The pool half costs ₩45,000–₩53,000 for a day, or ₩20,000–₩30,000 for afternoon and sunset tickets.

Q: Can I visit a Korean hot spring as a day trip from Seoul?

A: Yes. Onyang, Asan Spa and Dogo are 90 to 105 minutes from Yongsan, with the last Mugunghwa back from Onyang Oncheon at 22:26. Suanbo has only four KTX-Eum trains a day from Pangyo, so an overnight is easier.

Q: Are tattoos allowed at Korean hot springs?

A: There is no national ban. Spavis's and Paradise Spa Dogo's usage pages say nothing about tattoos as of October 2026; other spas set their own rules. Call ahead if your tattoos are large.

Q: Is Termeden open in October 2026?

A: Not from 12 to 22 October 2026, when it is closed for autumn maintenance, and not on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 28 October.
