Incheon Airport to Busan, Korea: Direct Bus, AREX + KTX or a Flight to Gimhae — Fares, Hours and the Last Departure

EpicKor Editorial|

Last updated: 5 November 2026. Bus routes, stops, fares and timetables were read that day on Incheon Airport's own bus pages (airport.kr, route detail for 부산동부, 부산서부(사상) and 부산해운대) and checked against the national bus timetable data (TAGO, via asamaru, updated 3 November 2026). AREX times are from AREX's timetable file in force since 23 October 2026. KTX times are the Seoul–Busan timetable data read on 5 November 2026 (trains running 6 November); the ₩54,400 fare is Korail's post-merger fare, cut from ₩59,800 on 1 September 2026. Gimpo–Gimhae flights are from Korea Airports Corporation's schedule for Gimpo, read for 6 November 2026. Dollar figures use ₩1,340 = US$1 and are approximate. Sources are at the end.

Is there a direct bus from Incheon Airport to Busan? Yes. Intercity buses leave Incheon Airport for Busan's main bus terminal at Nopo (부산종합버스터미널) 18 times a day, the first at 05:50 and the last at 23:50 from Terminal 1. Sixteen of them reach Nopo in 4 hours 41 minutes and carry on to Haeundae (해운대), 5 hours 12 minutes from the airport; the other two, at 05:50 and 18:25, go via Dongnae and take 5 hours 18 minutes to Nopo. A standard deluxe seat costs ₩53,900 (about US$40) to Nopo and ₩58,400 (US$44) to Haeundae.

That bus is the option most English guides leave out. They send everyone to Seoul Station for a KTX, which is often the right call, but not always. Here are the three real ways to get from Incheon Airport to Busan: the direct bus, the AREX train into Seoul plus a KTX south, and a flight to Gimhae (김해), Busan's airport. For each one you get the total time, the fare in won and dollars, the first and last departures, what happens to your luggage, how to book, and what to do if your plane lands late at night.

The short answer: staying in Haeundae, or landing after about 21:30? Take the bus. Staying near Busan Station, Nampo or Seomyeon and landing in daytime? Take AREX and the KTX. The separate-ticket flight rarely wins. The exception is a connecting flight to Busan booked on the same ticket as your international flight, explained below.

One rule from Incheon Airport itself applies to all three. Its bus page asks travellers booking onward transport to allow 1 to 2 hours after landing for immigration and baggage (입국 소요시간 1~2시간). Every time in this guide starts when you are standing landside with your bags.

Option 1: the direct bus from Incheon Airport to Busan

Incheon Airport's own bus pages list three routes to Busan, all intercity buses (시외버스, si-oe beoseu):

  • Busan Haeundae (부산해운대): Terminal 2, Terminal 1, Busan Central Bus Terminal at Nopo (부산동부), then Haeundae. 16 departures a day.
  • Busan Dongbu (부산동부): two premium buses a day, 05:50 and 18:25 from T1, ₩70,000, 5 hours 18 minutes to Nopo. Airport.kr's route map shows them stopping at Dongnae (부산동래) before Nopo.
  • Busan Seobu, Sasang (부산서부(사상)): two buses a day, 07:00 and 17:40 from T1, ₩53,900, 5 hours 9 minutes to Sasang in western Busan. Airport.kr's route map lists a stop at Gumi (구미) on the way. These two are not among the 18 to Nopo.

Most visitors want the Haeundae route, which also serves Nopo. Here is its full timetable from Terminal 1, the same every day of the week. Buses leave Terminal 2 twenty minutes earlier (06:10 to 23:30).

22:20Deluxe, late-night fare₩70,100 (US$52)03:32
23:50Premium, late-night fare₩91,300 (US$68)05:02

Timetable and fares from airport.kr and the TAGO national bus data, both read 5 November 2026. Getting off at Nopo instead costs ₩53,900 on a deluxe seat, ₩70,000 premium, ₩64,700 on the 22:20 and ₩84,000 on the 23:50, and takes 4 hours 41 minutes. Arrival times are the schedule; traffic on the Gyeongbu Expressway can add more.

The gap to notice: no Haeundae bus leaves between 17:00 and 19:40. The only bus in that gap is the 18:25 premium via Dongnae, which reaches Nopo at 23:43 (₩70,000) and does not go on to Haeundae. Land at 15:30 and clear immigration by 17:15, and the train will beat both.

Fares. The ₩58,400 deluxe fare is the post-1 October figure: Korea's intercity bus fare caps rose 9% that day, the first rise since 2023 (what the 1 October changes did to Seoul–Busan fares). A premium seat (프리미엄) is a wider recliner with a privacy shell; the deluxe (우등) seat is three to a row and comfortable enough for five hours. Buses after 22:00 carry a late-night surcharge (심야).

Where to board. According to airport.kr's route pages as read on 5 November 2026, the Busan buses leave Terminal 1 from stop 10 on the arrivals floor (1F), in the regional-bus zone outside exits 11 to 13, and Terminal 2 from the Transportation Center, B1, stop 4 (stop 3 for Sasang). Check the sign at the stop, as stop numbers change. Ticket counters are inside T1 arrivals and in the T2 Transportation Center.

Booking. Airport.kr sends you to the intercity bus booking site, txbus.t-money.co.kr (시외버스 통합예매), for these routes. It is in Korean. If you are not comfortable with it, buy at the airport counter after you clear customs; on most days the deluxe buses do not sell out. Do not pre-book a bus 45 minutes after your scheduled landing. If the flight is late, the bus goes without you.

Luggage. Suitcases go in the hold under the bus. It is the easiest of the three options with two large bags: you hand them over once at Incheon and pick them up in Busan.

The honest downsides. Five hours on the road, usually with a break at a motorway rest area, and an arrival at Nopo, on the northern edge of Busan, if you are not going to Haeundae. From Nopo to Busan Station or Nampo it is still a long subway ride on Line 1. A five-hour bus straight after a long-haul flight is also simply tiring.

Not going to Busan itself? The national timetable data (TAGO via asamaru, updated 3 November 2026) shows four premium express buses a day from Terminal 1 to Gimhae city (김해여객터미널: 08:40, 13:25, 15:45 and 18:20, ₩66,400, 4 h 53 min). Airport.kr says the Gimhae route is booked on kobus.co.kr. Gimhae is the city next to Busan's airport, not Busan.

Option 2: AREX to Seoul Station, then the KTX to Busan

There is no KTX from Incheon Airport any more. Korail stopped running KTX trains to the airport in 2018, and the service was formally withdrawn that September. Today the train route is two legs: AREX (공항철도) into Seoul Station, then a KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station.

Leg 1, AREX. The express runs non-stop to Seoul Station in 43 minutes from Terminal 1 (51 from Terminal 2) for ₩13,000 (US$10). The all-stop train takes about an hour from Terminal 1 for ₩4,750 (US$3.50) by transit card (₩5,350 from T2). Every AREX detail, from platforms to the last trains, is in our Incheon Airport to Seoul guide.

Leg 2, KTX. On 6 November 2026, 65 KTX trains run from Seoul Station to Busan Station. The first leaves at 05:13, the last at 22:49. Per that day's timetable data, the fastest take 2 hours 18 minutes, most take 2 hours 30 to 2 hours 50, and a few slow ones that leave the high-speed line take over 3 hours 15 minutes, so check the duration before you buy. Since Korail and SR merged on 1 September 2026, the standard fare is ₩54,400 (US$41), down from ₩59,800 (Korea Economic Daily, 31 August 2026; how the KTX merger cut fares).

Total. AREX express plus KTX: ₩67,400 (US$50). AREX all-stop plus KTX: ₩59,150 (US$44). Allow about 3 hours 45 minutes from the T1 platform to Busan Station on a fast KTX: 43 minutes on AREX, about 20 minutes to get from AREX's deep platforms up to the KTX concourse, a short wait, and 2 hours 30 minutes on the train. Busan Station sits in the old city centre, on Metro Line 1, two stops from Nampo.

Booking. KTX seats go on sale two months ahead since 1 October 2026 (the new booking window), on korail.com in English or in the Korail+ app (코레일+). On a weekday you can usually buy a seat once you land. On Friday and Sunday evenings and around holidays, the trains you want can sell out; book as soon as your flight time is fixed. Choose a train that leaves at least 1 hour 15 minutes after you expect to be on the AREX platform. Missing a reserved KTX costs you a refund fee and a new ticket.

Should you buy a rail pass for this? Usually not. The cheapest KORAIL PASS day costs more than the one-way ₩54,400 fare, so a pass only pays if Busan is one of several long rides (the KORAIL PASS break-even).

Luggage. You carry it. AREX has luggage space by the doors, and KTX cars have racks at each end and overhead shelves. On a busy train the end racks fill first, so board early. Seoul Station's AREX platforms are several floors underground; the escalators and lifts work, but it is a long haul with two large cases.

A shortcut that skips Seoul Station. Airport bus 6004 runs from both terminals to Gwangmyeong KTX station (광명역) as its first stop, from about 07:10 to 23:05 at T1 (stop 6 on the T1 arrivals floor, B1 stop 26 at T2, per airport.kr). The fare is ₩17,000 per airport.kr (read 5 November 2026); check before you go. Gwangmyeong is on the KTX line south of Seoul, so you avoid the AREX transfer. Most Busan KTX trains stop there, but not all; check yours. We did not find an official journey time for the bus leg, so allow at least an hour.

The honest downsides. Two transfers, two tickets, and a cost ₩5,250 to ₩13,500 above the deluxe bus to Nopo. If your hotel is in Haeundae, Busan Station is still about an hour away by subway (Line 1 to Seomyeon, then Line 2), so the time advantage over the bus mostly disappears.

Option 3: a flight to Gimhae Airport

There are two very different flights, and which one you can take depends on your ticket.

A. The connecting flight from Incheon (only on an international ticket). Korean Air runs transfer-only domestic flights between Incheon and Gimhae (환승전용 내항기). They are operated like international flights: you stay airside at Incheon, follow the Transfer signs, fly about an hour, and do immigration and customs at Gimhae, where you also collect your checked bags. You cannot buy this leg on its own. It has to be on the same ticket as your international flight, which Korean Air and Asiana sell, and passengers on Korean budget airlines' international flights reportedly cannot use it. In June 2025 Busan's press reported five Busan–Incheon flights a day; we could not confirm the 2026 schedule on Korean Air's site.

If your airline offers this connection for a small extra fare, it is the most comfortable way to Busan: no transfers on the ground and your bags checked through. Ask when you book. Do not go through normal immigration at Incheon if you are on it; Korean Air warns you will not be able to board the connection.

B. A separate domestic flight from Gimpo. If your ticket ends at Incheon, a flight means crossing to Gimpo Airport first: AREX all-stop from Terminal 1, about 35 to 40 minutes by AREX's timetable, for less than the ₩4,750 Seoul fare. Korea Airports Corporation's schedule (read 5 November 2026 for Friday 6 November) shows 22 flights from Gimpo to Gimhae that day, from 07:00 to 20:10, each 65 to 75 minutes in the air. Korean Air and Air Busan fly most of them; Jin Air, Jeju Air, Eastar Jet and T'way have one or two each. Plan to be at Gimpo about an hour before departure.

Fare. We could not get an official base fare that holds across dates; it moves with the day and the airline. One fixed part is the fuel surcharge: travel-agency notices put Korean Air's domestic surcharge at ₩25,300 (US$19) one way for tickets issued in November 2026, before the fare itself. A budget-carrier sale fare may come in under the KTX; a full-fare ticket bought close to the day will not. Price it on the airline's site for your date before you rule it in or out.

From Gimhae Airport to the city. Airport Limousine 1 runs to Haeundae for ₩9,500, and Limousine 2 to Seomyeon for ₩6,000. The light rail to Sasang plus Metro Line 2 costs ₩1,600 to ₩1,800. Haeundae is about an hour by rail or 90 minutes end to end by limousine (Busan bases and airport transfers).

See the Etekcity luggage scale on Amazon

Luggage. Domestic economy allowances are smaller than international ones and differ by airline and fare type; check yours before you fly. Large bags over the limit are charged at the check-in counter.

The honest downsides. For option B you add an airport transfer, a check-in buffer and a second airport, so the door-to-door time ends up close to the train's, at a higher price and with more ways to go wrong. On a day with a cheap budget fare and a Haeundae hotel it can work. For most people it does not.

The last departure: what to do if you land late at night

This is where most travellers get stuck, so here are the cut-offs from Terminal 1. We worked them out from AREX's official timetable file (in force from 23 October 2026), the KTX timetable data for 6 November and airport.kr's bus timetables. From Terminal 2, AREX trains and buses leave a few minutes to 20 minutes earlier.

Why not the 21:58 express? By AREX's timetable it reaches Seoul Station at 22:41, eight minutes before the last KTX. AREX's platforms are deep underground and the walk up to the KTX gates takes most of that. If you miss the 22:49, there is no later train.

Arriving in Busan after midnight. The last KTX gets in at 01:12, after Busan's metro has stopped, so you will need a taxi from Busan Station (the meter starts at ₩4,800, and late-night fares are higher). The 22:20 and 23:50 buses arrive between 3 and 5 a.m., which is only useful if your hotel lets you check in that early or you book the room from the night before.

The option most late arrivals should take: sleep near Incheon Airport, leave early. By AREX's timetable the first all-stop leaves Terminal 1 at 05:14 and reaches Seoul Station at 06:14, in time for the 06:33 KTX (Busan 09:22) or the 06:57 (Busan 09:39). That gets you to Busan by mid-morning, rested, for the price of one hotel night. The first direct bus, the 05:50 premium, would not reach Nopo until 11:08. Our Incheon layover guide covers the airport's own rest and hotel options and the AREX times back into Seoul.

Going on from Busan

Busan is a gateway as well as a destination. From Busan Station the KTX reaches Gyeongju in under 40 minutes, and from Busan's international ferry terminal, a short taxi ride from Busan Station, the overnight ferry sails to Fukuoka, Japan (Busan to Fukuoka ferry vs flying). If Busan is one stop on a longer rail trip, check whether a pass pays before you buy single tickets (KORAIL PASS break-even).

FAQ

Q: Is there a direct bus from Incheon Airport to Busan? A: Yes. Buses leave Incheon Airport for Busan's Nopo terminal 18 times a day, from 05:50 to 23:50 at Terminal 1 (20 minutes earlier at Terminal 2). Sixteen of them take 4 hours 41 minutes to Nopo and go on to Haeundae (5 hours 12 minutes). The other two, premium buses at 05:50 and 18:25, go via Dongnae and take 5 hours 18 minutes. Separately from those 18, two buses a day (07:00 and 17:40) go to Sasang in western Busan.

Q: How much is the bus from Incheon Airport to Busan? A: As of 5 November 2026, a deluxe seat costs ₩53,900 (about US$40) to Nopo and ₩58,400 (US$44) to Haeundae. Premium seats cost ₩70,000 to ₩76,100, and the late-night 22:20 and 23:50 buses cost up to ₩91,300 (US$68).

Q: Is there a KTX from Incheon Airport to Busan? A: No. KTX service to Incheon Airport ended in 2018. Take AREX to Seoul Station (43 minutes on the ₩13,000 express) and change to a KTX to Busan (₩54,400, about 2 hours 30 minutes on a fast train), or take airport bus 6004 to Gwangmyeong KTX station.

Q: What is the fastest way from Incheon Airport to Busan? A: In daytime, AREX express plus a fast KTX: about 3 hours 45 minutes to Busan Station after you leave the arrivals hall. If your international ticket includes Korean Air's Incheon–Gimhae connecting flight, that is quicker still, because you never leave the airport at Incheon.

Q: What time is the last bus from Incheon Airport to Busan? A: 23:50 from Terminal 1 and 23:30 from Terminal 2, a premium late-night bus that reaches Nopo at 04:31 and Haeundae at 05:02. The last regular-fare deluxe bus leaves T1 at 21:00.

Q: Can I fly from Incheon to Busan? A: Only as a connection on an international ticket: Korean Air's transfer-only flights from Incheon to Gimhae cannot be bought on their own. With a separate domestic ticket you fly from Gimpo, which has about 22 flights a day to Gimhae, the last at 20:10.

Q: How far ahead should I book the KTX to Busan? A: Seats go on sale two months before departure. On weekdays you can usually buy after landing; for Friday or Sunday evenings and holidays, book once your flight time is fixed and leave at least 75 minutes between reaching the AREX platform and the KTX departure.
