Quick Answer

Who owns Biodance? Beauty Selection Co., Ltd. (주식회사 뷰티셀렉션), an unlisted Korean company with its head office in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Two Korean individuals control it. Kim Mi-hwa (김미화), a co-founder and the chief product officer, held 52.17% of all shares on 31 December 2025. Park Jae-bin (박재빈), the CEO, held 35.44%. Together that is 87.6%, according to the company's audited 2025 accounts on Korea's disclosure system DART.

Which country is Biodance from? South Korea. The brand was launched in Seoul in June 2021, the company is Korean, and two Korean individuals who have run it since 2019 control it. The masks are made in Korea by Korean contract manufacturers, according to the Korean product notices.

Is it a big company? It grew very fast. Revenue was ₩41.6 billion in 2023 (about $29 million), ₩135.7 billion in 2024 and ₩248.1 billion in 2025 (about $175 million). It went from an operating loss in 2023 to an operating profit of ₩40.3 billion in 2025.

If you searched "Biodance parent company" and got dance troupes, this is the company you were looking for.

This is a public-information company spotlight. EpicKor has no relationship with Beauty Selection or Biodance, and nothing here is investment advice. Won figures come from the company's audit reports unless a press source is named. Dollar figures use ₩1,421 to the dollar, the 2025 average of the US Federal Reserve's daily KRW/USD rate (FRED series DEXKOUS), and are rounded.

BIODANCE Collagen Gel Toner Pads — the brand beyond the mask Biodance now sells more than the mask, and these collagen gel pads are one of the follow-up products on its official Amazon store. The listing is sold by Biodance itself, which matters because lookalike "collagen" products from other brands sit next to its listings (see below). Check the current price on the listing. Who Owns The Shares

The shareholder table is in the first note of Beauty Selection's audit report. This is the primary source, and it is the answer to the ownership question.

ShareholderShare class31 Dec 202531 Dec 202431 Dec 2023
Kim Mi-hwa (김미화)Common52.17%52.09%53.00%
Park Jae-bin (박재빈)Common35.44%35.22%36.00%
Other shareholdersCommon4.66%4.29%3.00%
Other shareholdersPreferred (convertible, redeemable)7.73%8.40%8.00%

The 2023 percentages are as printed in the 2024 report. Worked out from its share counts, they are about 53.3% (Kim) and 35.5% (Park).

Three things in the notes fill in the picture:

  • Kim Mi-hwa is the controlling shareholder. The related-party note lists her as "지배주주", the controlling shareholder, in both 2024 and 2025.
  • One outside investor can name a board member. The same note names Altos Korea Opportunity Fund 5, L.P. as an entity with significant influence over the company, because it holds the right to nominate an outside director. Altos Ventures is a venture firm that invests in Korean start-ups. The Economist Korea reported that investors including Altos Ventures put ₩13 billion (about $9 million) into Beauty Selection's Series A in September 2022. The audit report does not name the preferred shareholders or give the size of each holding, so Altos's exact stake is not public.
  • The outside stake is shrinking, not growing. In April 2025 the company used retained earnings to redeem and cancel 10,500 preferred shares. Small increases in the common shares came from employees exercising stock options.

So the plain answer is: Biodance is owned by the Korean co-founder and CEO who run it. No large beauty group, foreign or Korean, has bought it. On 13 October 2026 we found no DART filing showing a change of control.

How Beauty Selection Started

The early history comes from interviews the company gave to Korean press, mainly The Economist Korea in May 2025. Treat the dates before 2023 as the company's own account.

Korean press interviews describe Kim Mi-hwa as a co-founder in charge of product planning, and Park Jae-bin as the CEO who has run the business with her since the group-buying days of 2019. The company told The Economist Korea that every Biodance product goes through Kim's hands "from A to Z". Park describes the company as being, in practice, Biodance itself. The audit report backs that up: in 2025 it booked 96% of revenue as sales of the company's own products (제품) rather than goods it resold (상품).

The Numbers: From Loss To ₩40 Billion Profit In Two Years

These are Beauty Selection's own (separate) accounts. It does not prepare consolidated accounts: its subsidiaries are below the size that requires an audit, so they are carried at equity value instead.

YearRevenueOperating profitNet profitOperating margin
2023₩41.6 billion ($29M)−₩4.7 billion (loss)−₩6.0 billion (loss)−11.2%
2024₩135.7 billion ($95M)₩26.8 billion ($19M)₩18.1 billion ($13M)19.7%
2025₩248.1 billion ($175M)₩40.3 billion ($28M)₩32.7 billion ($23M)16.3%

Revenue grew about six times in two years. Profit grew more slowly in 2025 than revenue did, and the cost lines show why:

Cost line (2025)Amount2024Share of 2025 revenue
Advertising (광고선전비)₩48.9 billion ($34M)₩15.0 billion19.7%
Export costs (수출제비용)₩29.2 billion ($21M)₩4.0 billion11.8%
Sales commissions (판매수수료)₩19.4 billion ($14M)₩15.9 billion7.8%
Total selling and admin costs₩119.2 billion ($84M)₩64.2 billion48.0%

Shares of revenue are EpicKor calculations. Export costs rose about seven times in a year. That fits a company whose growth is mostly abroad, though the audit report does not split revenue by country. The company told The Economist Korea in May 2025 that more than 80% of its revenue came from overseas.

The balance sheet is conservative. On 31 December 2025:

  • Total assets were ₩86.7 billion ($61M), and equity was ₩60.5 billion ($43M).
  • Liabilities were ₩26.1 billion, a debt-to-equity ratio of 43.2%, down from 91.2% a year earlier.
  • Bank borrowing was zero. The ₩3.06 billion of short-term loans at the end of 2024 (₩1.06 billion from KB Kookmin Bank and Shinhan Bank, ₩2 billion from its own subsidiary Loftlab (로프트랩)) had been repaid.
  • Cash and short-term deposits were about ₩25.1 billion ($18M).
  • Inventory had doubled to ₩36.7 billion ($26M), which is what you would expect before a bigger year.
  • Property, plant and equipment was only ₩146 million. Beauty Selection owns no factory.

Two further items in the notes are worth knowing. The company uses currency options with Busan Bank and Shinhan Bank to sell US dollars at fixed rates of about ₩1,428 to ₩1,463 per dollar into 2027, which again shows how much of its income arrives in dollars. And after the year end, someone filed a ₩1 billion damages claim against the company. The report does not name the claimant, and the company says the outcome cannot yet be predicted, so it has set no provision aside.

For 2026 the company has said it is aiming for revenue of more than ₩500 billion (about $352 million), according to Korea Textile News. That is a target, not a result.

Where Biodance Masks Are Made

Beauty Selection designs and sells the products. Contract manufacturers make them. Korean product-notice rules for cosmetics require a listing to name the manufacturer (화장품제조업자) and the company responsible for selling it (화장품책임판매업자), and the two notices we checked name different factories:

Where we checkedProductManufacturer on the noticeResponsible sellerMade in

Costco KoreaCollagen Deep Mask, 24 sheetsGenic Co., Ltd. ((주)제닉)Beauty SelectionKorea

Genic is a Korean mask and skincare ODM founded in 2001. Hankyung reported on 7 September 2026 that Genic supplies hydrogel masks to Biodance among other brands, and that rising overseas orders took it from 8 production lines in the first quarter of 2026 to 11 in the second. Hydrogel is a water-holding gel that, Hankyung notes, is harder to make than an ordinary sheet mask.

So the answer to "where is Biodance made" is Korea, by more than one Korean contract manufacturer. Which factory made your box is printed on the box. Hankyung notes that Korean brands commonly split production across several ODMs, by formula and volume.

Five Biodance Real Deep Mask pouches fanned out in purple, pink, blue, green and yellow; the front purple pouch reads Rejuvenating Caviar PDRN Real Deep Mask with French text, and a red tag reads 40매.

The Real Deep Mask range now comes in several colours and formulas. The front pouch is the Caviar PDRN version, labelled in English and French. The red tag "40매" means 40 sheets. Official image: Biodance Korean online store.

Where It Sells

Biodance entered Amazon US in July 2022, and the company says sales took off at Olive Young and on Amazon in 2023. According to The Economist Korea (May 2025) and Korea Textile News (October 2026):

  • North America: Amazon US, Sephora in the US and Canada, and Costco.
  • Europe: Sephora, Boots in the UK, and Douglas.
  • Asia: Olive Young and Costco in Korea, the Qoo10 marketplace, and a Hong Kong subsidiary set up in 2025.
  • Total: about 90 countries.

Beauty Selection also owns a small US subsidiary, Beauty Selection USA LLC (100%). The company says it had produced 350 million Real Deep Mask sheets in total by August 2026. That is the company's figure and we could not check it.

In Korea, the official store listed the 16-sheet Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask at ₩80,000, discounted to ₩67,000 (about $47, or about ₩4,190 a sheet) on 13 October 2026. The store also notes that it limits how many boxes one customer can buy, and may cancel orders above that limit.

How To Tell The Genuine Product

The Real Deep Mask has been copied widely. On 13 October 2026, the Amazon page for Biodance's own mask showed several other brands' "Bio-Collagen" overnight masks in its recommendations, with very similar names and pink packaging. They are not made by Biodance. Before you buy:

  1. Check the seller. On Amazon US, the official listings say "Visit the BIODANCE Store" under the title and "Sold by Biodance" in the buy box. Both listings linked on this page met that test on 13 October 2026.
  2. Check the brand name, not the product name. "Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask" is Biodance's product name. Other brands use "Bio Collagen" and "Real Deep" in their titles too.
  3. Check the back of the box. A Korean-market box names (주)뷰티셀렉션 as the responsible seller and a Korean manufacturer, such as iCure or Genic, with "Made in Korea".
  4. Be careful with very cheap bulk lots. The brand limits quantities on its own Korean store, so a stranger offering hundreds of boxes well below retail is a reason to ask questions.

What This Means For Shoppers

Biodance is a Korean brand owned by the Korean people who run it, made in Korea and sold mainly abroad. It is not part of a larger beauty group, unlike Beauty of Joseon, which belongs to Who Owns Beauty of Joseon? Goodai Global, the Korean Company Behind TIRTIR, SKIN1004 and Round Lab. Its closest competitor in the "Korean mask brand" category is MEDIHEAL, a cotton-sheet mask brand covered in Who Owns MEDIHEAL? The Korean Sheet-Mask Company Behind It, and Why It Is Not Medicube.

Biodance also sells PDRN versions of its mask. If you are not sure what PDRN is, our Korean PDRN Skincare Guide: Salmon DNA and Spicules explains the difference between the cosmetic ingredient and clinic procedures.

What Korean SMEs Can Take From This

Beauty Selection is still a mid-sized company. Three choices explain most of its growth:

  1. One product that shows its result. The mask turns from cloudy to clear as it is absorbed, which works well in short videos. The company told The Economist Korea it renamed the masks as "overnight masks" to get people to leave them on longer.
  2. Overseas first. More than 80% of revenue came from abroad by the company's own account in May 2025, almost three years after the brand entered Amazon US in July 2022.
  3. Let a specialist factory make it. Hydrogel is hard to manufacture. Beauty Selection owns no factory and uses Korean ODMs such as Genic and iCure.

There is also a warning in the numbers. Advertising and export costs grew faster than revenue in 2025, and the operating margin fell from 19.7% to 16.3%. For comparison, Who Owns Medicube? Inside APR, the Korean Beauty-Tech Company Behind AGE-R built its own device factory and listed on KOSPI, while Who Owns Torriden? The Korean Company Behind Dive-In Serum, Read From Its Audit Report is another founder-run brand that grew through overseas sales.
